Plenty of new medical techniques and drugs are dveloped in Aistralia, most recent example being the gardasil vaccine which prevents if I remeber correctly cervical cancer. In fact we punch well above our weight in this area.
We also are leaders in cranio facial surgical developments.
Thats all I can think of right now but there are definately many more, I am not a medical worker.
So the answer is not less than in the US on a size for size basis it is probably more.
But wait, there is also Europe and many other countries that develop medical techinques.
You show incredible arrogance and ignorance when you suggest the US is the main source of medical advances.
Australias national health scheme is totally paid by a 1.5% tax levy on incomes above a threshold of about $40K.
I have always been stunned that such a small ammount that could do so much good for so many, is so bitterly opposed in the US, especially when so many of you profess to be christians.
I believe the US govt already spends more per capita on health care than we do, and get far less services, in some case none at all.
We also have a prescription benefit scheme, much hated by the US drug companies, that forces reasonable prices for drugs.
When the free trade agreement was brought in the pharma companies tried very hard to get the PBS changed, but our govt, for once stood firm!
One day the US might catch up with most everyone else in the civilised world, and have decent public health, good employment laws, and that defining factor of civilisation, a national test cricket team! (-:
I hear this kind of claim a lot, but at l;east in my experience it is false. I am in charge of purchasing in my job, and 5 years ago fro budgetary reasons I had to buy cheap Dell laptops, in this case Inspiron 1300. Reluctantly I did so.
5 Years later they are all going strong, no Winodows reloads needed and not one hardware issue.
As for the high build quality of Macs and their long lasting, tell that to the pile of unrepairable Power Books I have.
Bullshit, it is only those of you in the US that allow yourselves to be treated like crap by employers.
Thanks to strong unions, working conditions here are vaslty superior to the US.
I get paid for every minute I work, and 4 weeks leave 2 weeks sick leave per year. I have always given value for the money I am paid, and expect the same from an employer.
There is no chance of my job being outsourced.
Why do you advocate smiling whilst an employer gives to you in the ass?
When you give employers access to stupid conditions such as your laughably biased "At will" system-you deserve to be screwed.
Stand up for yourselves and demand proper treatment, and join a union.
2) My pet peeve is that despite the publicity and global design and parts-bin, they're only selling domestically. America is a big market sure, but the World is a bigger one.
Oh so I better ring Simon Hackett, owner of Austraian ISP Internode and tell him the Tesla he drove at the recent Clipsal motor race in Adelaide is a figment of his imagination .
Quite right, in general, I no longer bother to read your posts, most particularly because you dont know how to use the bloody shift key, which makes your posts look very ugly. Is that just ignorance or do you deliberately do it to annoy people?
I dont care what you SAY you believe, It is what you have actaully written that I judge you on.
Way to leap to conclusions!
I can say with a deal of certainty, that we will not agree often!
Regretably, Rupert made his start in the news business here in good old Adelaide SA, where he had his first newspaper an afternoon tabloid, called "The News" we also had a excellent morning broadshhet paper called The Advertiser which was a family owned business that stayed independant for many years.
Up until quite recently the News corp AGM was held here.
In the end Murdoch got hold of The Advertiser and turned it into exactly the same crap tabloid as The News, which was then closed. When the original editor retired, he appointed of course a right wing loony.
One of my very favourite Murdoch comments was after an interview with the Australian public broadcaster, the ABC, who questioned him very well, asking questions he really did not want to answer.
After the end of the interview his mic was left on and he was clearly heard to say "Fucking ABC bastards", much to the listeners amusement.
Comparably-configured Macs and Dells cost nearly the same.
Rubbish.
Maybe in magic lala mac land they do but in the real world, particularly Australia in my case I just bought a new DELL Latitude , E6400/Core 2 2.66/4 gig RAM 320HDD LED screen metal case(Bloody awesome!)for $2000. To get the same spec in a new mac here would cost well over $3,000.
Note this is not a sub $500 machine.
I have cosistently found that the same laptop hardware spec costs 50% more for the mac label in Australia.
Quite so. We technical types tend to look for technical solutions.
In some cases you just cant beat old fashioned pen and paper, which is fully understood by everyone.
I see no advantage in electronic vote counting at all for the voters!
I am no grammar nazi, but why the hell are so many people writing "sight" when they mean "Site"-its not as if it could be a typo.

Turn the lights off when you leave, your probably thee last Kiwi that isnt here already!
Flies only come in spring/summer.
They are more common in the country, where they breed in animal dung.
Try Adelaide, not many flies on us!

Not that I'm a Apple advocate, but Apple has had a far superior OS.
Not that I am a Microsoft advocate, but Windows
is far superior in flexibility and software availability than OSX.
Otherise you are spot on.
True that is exactly why I doint use GMAIL.
How did you guess?
"All our jobs."

I cant believe any of this is legal, you really do get totally screwed in the US with working conditions.
In Australia, all annual leave is cumulative, that is all untaken leave adds up. If you leave the employer it must be paid out in full.
Sick leave is cumulative too.
Annual leave is a minimum of 4 weeks and 2 weeks sick leave.
Why are such pathetic working condidtions tolerated?

Like the sig, heres my version.
There are 2 essentials needed to fly, airspeed and money!
Meh, anyone who runs a car on petrol in Australia is mad.
The govt will pay most of the cost of an LPG conversion, current LPG price is 54c/litre.
You do use 25% more gas though!
I have saved 50% on my fuel bill for the last 10 years by using LPG!
To equal the fuel running cost of my 4.0litre 1.4 ton Falcon, I would have to ahve a car getting better than 6.5l/100km. It would be a very small car!
The point CTS is that unless you clean your OWN house first, you have no right to crticise others.
If you do we have a word for that it is called hypocrasy, which in my observations of your posts is a speciality of yours.
You never get this point do you?
The real facts are simple. South Ossetia WAS a part of Georgia at the time Russia invaded.
Rusiia is occupying another countries territory. its as simple as that.
Why apologize for calling comeone who is stupid, stupid?

My irony-o-meter just exploded at the "SITE" of your post complaining about spelling and grammar.
Ya gotta laugh at some of the posts on this "sight" eh?
Sight- What your eyes give you.
Site- A location, either physical or virtual.
Now just brighten up and "tow" the line, OK looser!
(-:
Bloody hell, I dont believe it-I must have awoken in an alternate universe, where I actually agree with one of CTS posts.

I am reminded of Deep thoughts response when told he could cause a philosophers strike.
"And whom will that inconveience"

"I'll put my money on the US' claim"
Yeh because we all know US intelligence is always right.
WMD anyone?
Appparently Pudge has escaped from the reinforced cubicle they keep the rabid insane employees in at Slashdot HQ.
Or they might dig a hole deeper than 200ft, putting them out of the range of this device!
More likely she will kill him with her brain!
