Actually, I'm one of the few people (if not the only one) to actually read about the case from more than summaries on Slashdot.
Did you know that the message that Lori Drew supposedly sent of "the world would be better off without you" was never found on anyone's account or on the server? Are you also aware that the girl did not kill herself after reading an email from Lori Drew, but in fact killed herself after having an argument with her mother where her mother yelled at her for swearing and told her she was spending too much time on the computer and was going to restrict her computer access?
I'm going to go ahead and assume that, like so many others, you were not aware of those things. Now that you know those things, will you step back and look at it objectively? Or will you continue to follow the sensationalist bullshit of "she didn't like this girl and then the girl kill herself later -> she forced this girl to kill herself!"?
The victim in this case was an adolescent girl suffering from clinical depression. In fact, she was even on multiple mood-stabilizers. It should be quite obvious that someone in that situation is already predisposed to self-harm and suicide without others bullying them. But when someone deliberately causes psychological harm on such an individual, the situation becomes even more dangerous.
I used to have depression (probably technically still do, but whatever) and have spent my entire life with pretty much everyone treating me like shit and had plenty of people tell me that I should kill myself when I was in middle school / high school. You know what? I never did, even though I thought about suicide plenty. There is no one to blame for that girl's actions but herself. No one can make you kill yourself. People who kill themselves are ones that are going to do it and then society likes to blame SOMEONE because they can't accept that some people just hate life and would rather die than live in this crappy world.
First, the mythical message where she told her to kill herself or that "the world would be a better place without her" has never been found (even if it was found that she said the world would be a better place without her, how the hell can you call stating an opinion a crime? Good god, I'm terrified of the kind of politicians you vote for with views like that...) - on anyone's myspace account or server. Secondly, the girl killed herself after having an argument with her mother about her spending too much time online and her swearing.
Lori Drew being mean to the girl had nothing to do with her committing suicide. It was her crappy relationship with her parents that resulted in her suicide and her parents, like most Americans these days, wanted a scapegoat to avoid taking the blame for being crappy parents.
Even if you have a decent signal for talk / texting, how's that non-existent 3G working for you? Sorry, but it's ridiculous to think people can realistically do email / web apps over EDGE.
.....but there's one overwhelming advantage that the iPhone has in the US - a carrier that actually has a usable network. I realize that some people here whine about AT&T, but I've never met anyone in real life who's had problems with them. Even if you do hate AT&T, you have to realize how utterly pathetic and unusable T-Mobile's network is. Their 3G coverage is like less than 20 square miles.......of the WHOLE US. Just getting a signal to make a regular phone call is hard with T-Mobile once you go outside the major cities.
Yes, but that's IF someone recognizes you. If no one knows who you are, you ARE anonymous. It's no different than having anonymity online and someone browsing the forum who happens to know your screen name and being able to link you to your screen name.
Not true. In real life I can go up to a stranger who's shouting the praises of communism and have a discussion with him and then leave without him ever knowing my name. He may know what I look like, but there's a lot of people who fit my general description. Only with people that you personally know do you not have anynonymity in real life. It's ridiculous to make people use their real names and addresses online so that someone can see that they wrote something they didn't like and then track them down and harass them or assault them.
The anynonimity of the internet allows people to say the things that they really think without fear of being attacked or harassed (because it's easy to block someone online or just stop going to a website).
But why stick with more obvious motivations when you can turn everything into a retarded political pissing match, right?
Yes, because it's not like we experience that kind of politcal bias here on Slashdot all the time where people get modded down because someone of the other party had mod points......
Apparently you don't know much about the UAW. They're highly overpaid, have completely ridiculous things in their contracts (such as getting 90% of their pay for NOT working if workers need to be cut), and also have stipulations that require the auto companies to have way more workers than are actually needed to do the job. If you still want to claim that the union cares about the good of the company, read up on how pathetically little the union was willing to give up when GM and Chrysler were trying to avoid bankruptcy. The UAW has a ridiculous sense of entitlement that makes the woman suing her college because she cant find a job after 3 months with her 2.7 gpa look sensible. It's quite sad that in the bankruptcy proceedings that GM / Chrysler couldn't ditch the union.
I did some research, that engine puts out 60 hp and 103 lb/ft of torque. Add in the extra power from the hybrid assist and it would accelerate decently enough for an econo-car.
If the new clean diesels emit more particulates than gasoline engines, how come new diesels like the Jetta TDI have such low emissions that they qualify for the same ultra low emissions tax credit that a hybrid gets?
If your statment is correct, then the diesels wouldn't get those tax credits for being ultra-low emissions (and god knows the government likes hybrids more than diesels, so it's not like they're trying to push diesels).
This is not my issue, my issue is with the all icon interface, I do this anyway (it's second nature now so I forget that I even do it) but even if I do this I'm still stuck with the all icon (no text) interface.
After reading that, I'm starting to guess that you're just a tricky troll who's smart enough to make it look like he's actually given Win 7 a chance. I've never bothered with changing the taskbar to how it used to be (never had a need to, the new one is so much cleaner and easy to use), but I tried it just now. Guess what? That text you claim isn't there? Yea, it's there. Seeing as how that's been your biggest gripe about Win 7 from both of your posts and you claim to have changed the taskbar (yet somehow failed to notice that it does exactly what you want it to do), I'm going to have to say that you're just trolling.
As you said, different parents have different ideas about what constitutes good parenting, but (unless we're using different definitions of kid here), a PG-13 movie is obviously not apropriate for kids. Also, I don't know if you took your kids to see it and then said "omg I didn't want them to see that", but you can look up the reasons why a movie was given a particular rating and that would definitely tip you off to the sex stuff.
Fair enough. However, I think far too many movies these days are ruined (or at least not as good as they could / should be) due to being "suitable for kids" and trying to appeal to a broader audience.
Obviously Star Wars comes to mind with Jar Jar, but you also had similar things in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Mutt getting hit in the crotch, the swinging with the monkeys), and the Transformer movies of course (the twin's being all ghetto, Bumblebee peeing on the guy, etc). These things are completely unnecessary and lower the quality of a movie.
I think kids should have kids movies, teens should have movies that are better than kids movies but not fully adult, and adults should have their movies. I'm not saying adults can't enjoy kids movies (Madagascar is great) but I really wish that the studios would stop trying to make ever super hero / sci-fi movie a "family friendly" movie. Pick your target audience, then make a film for them. When you try to target everyone, you may make a lot of money (like Star Wars), but people will always remember it as not being a very good movie.
What card do you have? I've used Win 7 since the beta and never had an issue with drivers on my dual Geforce 9800 GT's on my desktop or my Geforce 7000M on my laptop.
On the subject of AMD vs. Intel, yes, I know that Intel does have processors that are faster. However, you typically have to pay much more for the Intel. Also, I will always support AMD because of Intel's shady business practices. If Intel hadn't spent so many years paying companies like Dell to only use Intel, AMD would've had a lot more sales and would probably have even better technology (before you diss AMD, they were the first ones with 64-bit desktop systems, and if I remember correctly, the first one with dual-core desktop processors as well).
Am I making the best purchase based on bang for my buck all the time by buying AMD? Probably not. However, I'd rather see my money go to support a reputable company than one who has to resort to tactics worse than Microsoft's to be at the top of the industry.
Except that the new BSG ISN'T the show you enjoyed as a kid. If you want your kids to enjoy the BSG you liked when you were young, go buy the original BSG series on dvd for them.
AMD has never had to resort to paying other companies off to stay ahead of the competition. Intel however has used this tactic for years. As a result, I'll never buy Intel because I refuse to pay money to such a company like that. I'd rather my money go to AMD, who is honest, and every time I buy AMD it gives them more money to develop newer, better processors.
.......as opposed to sales tax in the US where it's just programmed into the cash register to collect X% as sales tax, which makes it simple for the government to collect the tax and businesses don't have to chase down everyone they do business with to make sure that they pay the right amount.
Actually, it IS about adding X% to the price every time it changes hands (even wikipedia can tell you that).
On another note, profit != value added. Just because someone is willing to pay $100 for a pair of Abercrombie jeans doesn't mean that they're worth more than the $3 in material and $2 in labor costs it took to make them.
Sales taxes (at least in the US) are only applied at the final point of sale (to consumers). They are not applied at every step in the manufacturing process, which a VAT is.

Hurting someone's feelings is not (nor should it be) against the law.

Here's their phone coverage http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx?WT.z_unav=mst_global_cvg
Here's their data coverage http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/pcc.aspx?WT.z_unav=mst_global_cvg

Shouting in a public square may not be private, but unless people you know are in that square, it is anonymous.
In RL, there is no anonymity.

Can you !(*^&%$%^$#-ing hear me NOW????
When reading this, did anybody else have the voice of Samuel L. Jackson going through their heads?
I sure did! Then I heard him shout "VERIZON MOTHA-FUCKA! DO YOU USE IT?!"

I don't know what old games you're talking about, but every game I've run under Windows 7 64-bit runs just fine - even ones from the mid-90's.
Ha! Real slashdoters write their posts in binary!
