There are so many programming languages used for so many purposes that choosing a particular language and forcing it down the throat of the guy may not be a good idea. Nobody would want them to be forced onto doing something they are not interested in. The best way to make him learn programming would be maybe ask him to take few computer courses in schools, get him interested/motivated in computer programs, help him identify what he would like to do with his computer and hope that whatever language he programs in it would be for open source.
Monitors these days are 18, 21 inches in size so I think it would be pretty diffcult to move hands over the monitor trying to press buttons than moving your mouse over relatively small pads.
Probability states the worlds brightest people are probably in China or India. However due to political structure it may be harder to find these people in those countries. (less so in India)
That seems to be a overly hasty generalization and in a way seems to belittle all the efforts european, american or intellects from other countries have contributed to science. Also the most cases of ip infringement have been reported on these economies so it looks it is not a just claim to make.
A generalization of such as instant messaging helps productivity would be merely futile. I have seen many around me bluffing/chatting/gossiping about things distantly useful to them to increase productivity. Also on occasions the messaging becomes a working tool when your bosses are away on fields. So it actually depends on when and why you are using instant messaging to really claim about the increase in productivity.
it does not look like it is making us stupid but rather it is making stupids intelligent. Stupids now just have to search for the most intelligent answer.
