As a certified BMW mechanic, I can tell you that you are both full of shit.
The enclosures are built differently (and not all that much), but the electronics are the same.
The enclosures are built to handle the increased vibration, etc. that comes from a mobile environment.
HOWEVER, as someone trained to replace such components (if something in the car comes to end of life cycle), I know for a fact that the components in the computers / related electronics in the car are the EXACT same parts you can order at Radio Shack (or Mouser / DigiKEY / MCM / insert favorite mail-order house here).
Funny, a bunch of geeks who know nothing of the internals of a computer in a car telling a trained mechanic how they function.
The problem is your only looking at baseline power.
Your power rates go up as you use more power daily, weekly and monthly. Some utilities can also charge you depending on the time your using the power.
So, your answer is VERY simplistic, but shows a BASE cost of running that computer, if you have NOTHING else on during that time.
Actual expenses, in my experience, are two to three times what your posing, just due to the fact that electricity rates can double or triple post base-line power.
They don't use Transistors, Inductors and Capacitors at all, do they?
Functionally, the devices might not be used to perform the same precursory things... However, silicon is silicon, capacitors are still made from the same things, and inductors are little more than (get this!!!) lumps of a constant controlled by the turns ratio and other things.
A lawyer is only brought into for his interpretation of the law.
Getting a judge to sign off that you don't have to pay attention to stop signs would be akin to what is going on here, not just talking to a lawyer.
Talking to a lawyer means nothing, unless said lawyer is a DA or such, and then, it only means he can choose not to prosecute, not that he can excuse you from any laws or guidelines.
Get the guys writing the code that breaks captcha.
Simple, honestly. Make it economically worthwhile to write the code to do such. Writing code to break handwriting isn't as lucrative as say, writing virii or malware code.
Take a look at the results...
disclaimer: I doubt they will EVER break my doc's handwriting.
The problem is, this wasn't an illegal search and seizure. It isn't entrapment, it isn't any of that.
Based upon good faith and probable cause, the vehicle was searched.
I know of a person who had a warrant issued for his arrest for parole violation. Problem was, he HADN'T BEEN RELEASED FROM PRISON YET!!!
Doesn't matter, as the warrant was issued in good faith. Hard to be released when your showing a warrant out for your arrest. He did another couple months, expired his sentence, and then went to the county and showed his release papers.
Simple, don't want legal problems, don't fuck up. Bottom line. Not that their isn't a bunch of people wrongfully incarcerated, but the majority DESERVE it.
Entertainment wouldn't cease to exist, as most movies are done, get this, BY US BASED COMPANIES.
When did WB, Fox, or any of the other big movie houses move out of country?
US products can be tariffed in retaliation. Creating a level playing field is good for all involved. It means Joan SoccerMom and Johnnie Baseball Bat can't afford to drive to Wal Mart in their H2 or Escalade or Insert_SUV_Here, but it also means that when they DO go to the store, they are supporting the economy here, rather than somewhere else. Basic econ, again.
Completely understand where you are coming from, but the bottom line is: We DID operate under this methodology for DECADES, then when the US expanded / customers decided they wanted cheap / throwaway merchandise (none of my amateur equipment built in the last 20 years can hold a candle to the electronics purchased previous... Wonder why? Some of my old Collins tubed equipment STILL has better spec's than my Kenwood of today?????? And we are talking 30 to 50 years of difference in age!!!).
Gee, a level playing field, rather than having to have our people who demand 20 to 200 dollars an hour having to compete with someone else making 2 to 5 dollars a day.
Gee, wonder why the economy is so in the dumps. We can't support our own growth, can't support our own companies, and the consumer confidence is in the toilet to the point of where they CAN'T afford to purchase things BUILT here.
Having just installed Ubuntu on a computer that had previously been running an older version of Slackware, I can tell you your full of crap.
Installing Vista on that hardware WORKED. WiFi worked, networking worked, etc. (that was my biggest bitch, the wifi part). It still DOESN'T reconnect if I reboot my access point, sometimes magically DISCONNECTS, etc.
Ubuntu isn't ready for prime time. IT IS a great OS, as is the other Linux distros, but it ISN'T ready, as this article / whatever you want to call it points out.
Wish it worked, but until the proprietary CRAP can be worked out (and it probably NEVER will be) (ie, getting madwifi to work OOBE, getting any wifi cards to work OOBE, etc).
The article states fact. Opinions have no relevance when arguing fact.
Under my scenario above, anyone that brings a product into this country is tariffed to the point of it still being on par with domestically produced products.
That takes away the entire "It is a global economy and the lowest tax, lowest labor cost, lowest price wins" type problem. Our economy (read, the amount of consumers we have) won't be ignored. We still have too many dollars for the rest of the world to ignore us.
This also accomplishes two other things. One, it creates a level playing field, thusly creating local jobs. People will again, proudly, purchase "Made in America", if "Made with Melamine in China" is the same cost. Secondly, our dollar would be worth a hell of a lot more, securing our economy once again.
I know it's hard to fathom, but it, historically, works. Look at "Made in America" from the 50s.

Modded flamebait by those that just have no understanding. Funny, though.
Sure, and all the countries that our companies are fleeing to (both for tax and cheap labor) are considered world leaders, with powerful economies, militaries, etc., etc., etc.
Fleeing to a third or second world country for tax breaks is what they do. Having a strong ecomony that doesn't require others to buy into it (like we are in now) doesn't come free.
Economy 101 dictates you need taxes. Something for nothing has been proven to pretty much, not work.
Tax the FUCK out of them for doing business in our country.
Seriously, it's time to stop sucking the collective cocks of our own corporations that run to tax sheltered countries or territories.
Facebook. Based in Ireland, based in the US.
Tax the FUCK out of them, and anything from China as well. Wanna do bidneth here? I suggest you pay the proper taxes as well.
note, I am NOT one who normally advocates raising taxes (small business owner myself), but having major corporations that SHOULD be paying literally tens of thousands to millions in taxes being able to run out of country, but yet, still maintain their base here in the US, and have other smaller corporations (like mine) that CAN'T leave the country due to other regulations, is bullshit.
A collinear can be electrically steered to give the pattern you need.
No, a pringles can won't work terribly well.
There are a LOT of antenna designs you can use to steer your signal where you need, get maximum gain, etc.
Another thing you can look at is a "direct fed yagi". This type of beam antenna will negate a matching network, allowing up to 6 dB more gain than a similiar antenna not designed (ie, uses a matching network).
Matching networks are WAY more lossy at microwave, as well.
The company I use uses DirecTV antennas with a Motorola device on it. www.creative-wireless.net has the things on display, as well as an install.
LOS (line of sight) rules with microwave. If you can't see it, it's next to impossible to get it to work.
Thank you for the reply. It was more informative than you probably thought.
I can completely understand having a geek hot rod. At one time, for an endtable in my living room, I had a Dell Server. Dual XEON 450s, 2 gigs of ram, 6X18 gig cheetah drives, etc., etc., etc.
This was in 1999. Was a > 20K dollar machine. I really appreciate Federal Express giving me the machine, it was REALLY nice of them (incidentally, I will ALWAYS ship comp equipment via them. They might break it, lose it, etc., but I've ALWAYS had a check within 48 hours from them, usually next day. EGL Global Logistics, same way. EGL also doesn't want bad hardware back, enabling me to have another Dell server).
I used that for Pitou, the linux emulation software for watching DirecTV back in the day. Was capable of running on 4 megs of RAM with a 286, but hey, a little overkill was worth it, right?
Again, thanks for the well thought out reply. I'd actually suggest the original article writer read it, as you went pretty in depth with the ram vs swap thing, how much your swap has actually been used (vs processor cores / power, etc). Gave me a little more insight into the question posed, as well as for my own system (just a lowly Turion X2 laptop, but hey, it works for text editing on Slashdot:) ).
Have a good one. Wish I had some mod points left, you deserve them.
I use WiFi / Microwave for my link. It's not cheap (if you look at the dollars for bandwith), but it's cheaper than taking a week / week and a half to dl a flick over dialup:)
I'm at 6400 feet, a couple thousand feet above the rest of the town. No cable companies, no internet other than the microwave company, etc.
If your in California, they are pretty much EVERYWHERE in the mountains. If not, can't really help:)
Seriously, people take a real question posed to others, and try to make it something it isn't.
I don't hate Apple for any reason. I was looking for an intelligent answer that didn't have anyone looking down their nose at me for asking.
Guess the maturity factor came into play:(
And, to this day, I don't see why MS couldn't give away a program if they wanted to. I actually like having an Operating System that works and does a lot out of the box.
Sure, I don't USE IE as my browser, but it sure is nice to actually HAVE a browser to download Opera with:) lol.
Not that that was MS's intention with bundling, but it works for me lol.
