how about mailing list and similar emails?
you cant add the all mailing list participants to a whitelist and many times the email comes from the user (the sender) not the mailing list address.
asking for all the mailing list to register in your mail server is also a impossible thing to do

a little dificult... dont forget that slackware was a small department of Walnut Creek CDROM until it was brought by Wind River, dont know if there is data just for slackware

but if it wasnt profitable, why would then contract 3 more developers for slackware (4 in the total in its max size) but not impose any release date or anything

only since the last version (8.0) they are a independent company and are back to one developer (Pat), so it you think about it, isnt hard that just by selling the CDs he can raise enough money to pay all things

learn the diference between unsupported and block

there no code for crash the XP!!! many people already said that it runs in some XPs

now unsupported means that they will not try to find and fix the bug, if you find it, please make the patch and send to then, it will probably be accepted, but again, they will not lose time supporting XP, no help, not special things, noting
if you want it, code it yourself, the source is there and the GPL license gives you that right

they are FREE to code and support what they want, if you dont like it, code and supporte what you like, or PAY someone to do it for you

i dont see you complaning when a windows game come out and say "(some OS, like even windows 9x) not supported" or "graphic card Y not supported" and you PAY (or at least should) for the game
not you have a free game and want even better support than comercial games!!

There are a LOT of XP users, and a lot of people who will be upgrading to XP from 95/98/Me/2000 soon

sadly the are many "not very smart" people... why the hell use XP?! win2k is no douth the best (ie: less bad) windows out there and win98 the best game machine OS, why people want XP... to get the latest virus?! to be able to change Themes?!
bah... do we really want people like this using ANY computer at all?!

have you find the code to do that?!

if yes then it must have a big bug, several people here already said that it works for then in XP too!!

they say "there is NO support, we dont care about XP", where they say "we block XP from running, you are forbiden of running the game there"

before talking about things you dont know, try to read/test/study about the subject, ok!!

What does "supported" mean for a GPL, free to download game
no, GPL you can sell the game if you want...
    GPL means other things:
-free to use in ANY way
    -you can have the source
    -you can change the source
-you can distribute the binary, a patch, all the source

in return you have to give the source to any program you distribute in binary form and keep the GPL license always

There's a help desk for it?

if they want to build a helpdesk they can...
but usually means that if you have problems, questions and thinks like that they TRY to reply to you and solve the problem...
its like one true helpdesk and most of the times work better
but remeber, they do that because they want, they are giving away their free time, and 99.99% of the time they get anything back

unsupported means that they will not reply to that questions, so dont even try (and if you try, almost always the ony reply you get is "its unsuported")

    >Read somewhere PIII has 7ms latency, Athlon more

this is because the P3 have his L2 cache on chip and the K7 dont...
the P2 neither (that have about the same latency as K7)
when the K7 move the L2 cache to inside the chip, the latency will drop alot...
the new latency will be a little more than the P3 because AMD will want to be able to push the clock higher and too lower latency would stop that...

the L2 cache in the P3 is at full speed, K7 and P2 have it at half speed of the cpu (2/5 to K7 800)
if K7 is still faster now than the P3, his new version will be alot faster

  11. Re:Just move more code to the server on Open Source Quake Causes Cheating? · · Score: 1

much of this already happends, the server do all the game, the client only show it, and send the movements...

but...there is still the problem of the client seeing all (invisible walls, people and itens map), know where are the other guys, how they are (life, ammo, shield, gun) and finally bots help (when a bot helps the cheater in the aim, autofire, or escape of the incoming fire )

but many of this already happends now...
i saw one demo of quakeworld deadmatch where the cheater fly, auto-aim and auto-fire all the people in range...there was 5 guys playing and none could reach near him
i saw little time ago a quakeworld TF where the map 2fort5r had invisible walls and the chater could see the other guys coming in

cheats existe and will continue to exist... Open source or close source...

we must only check the cheaters and try to block then out of the servers...

humm... just remember this...... a vote kick...
when some one think that other is cheating, voted to kick him out... if more than 50% of the server vote on his kick, he is gone (kicked that is)
this way normal players can kick out the cheater without haven to wait for the adm
