    Once again, Slashdot "editors" prove to be reactionary just to pump up a story. When the next version of UT for Linux comes out are you going to apologize for whipping people up for no reason.

    That is what RMS keeps shoving down everyone's throat. The FSF zealots don't care about OSS, they care about free. The old Qt license guaranteed that the software had to be free AND open source.

    I can get Windows freeware without source that costs nothing. They usually don't have restrictions on commercial use. The definitions keep getting muddier and muddier.

    in the black and white (no pun intended) free software zealot world. This is a place where people proudly declare they would rather use a less functional open source version of some program than a closed source version that works better.

    Qt gets raked over the coals for requiring people who would never write closed software to free software. Almost like the GPL.

    are out now. First it was free software advocates, not open source advocates. Now it is open source, but not convienent enough. When will it end?

    Just because the source is available does not mean they need to make you happy. If it is open source take the code, and make your own version, and stop telling others how to release their code.

    I seem to remember when there is a security flaw with a Linux distribution, everyone screams that anyone who is a professional would apply the patch, otherwise they have no excuse to complain. What is this guy's excuse?

    The same applies here. If this man makes his living doing documentation, he should keep up to date with the latest and greatest patches.

    It raises the question that SlashHeads scream about all the time, "What about the customers needs?"

    Everytime some corporation does something that the kids here don't like, you hear,

    "We are the customers, they have to listen to us."

    Then comes along this guy, who complains because his customers use a doc format that he does not like and has trouble with. If he is a professional, he finds a way to deal with it.

    Dumbass.

    he is supposed to be a documentation professional, so he should have a copy of all the tools his customers require, whether he likes MS or not (in this case Word95 native). If he does not like MS, he should find customers that meet his needs, even though that is not the way it usually works.

    everybody likes it when Linux comes out on top. When Windows wins one of these dumb comparisons, Microsoft has paid someone off. Everyone here knows that NT is less stable than Linux, but I don't believe any one of these "studies". Everyone has an axe to grind. There lies, damn lies, and benchmarks.
