In the usual rush to post anything anti-MS, it appears to have been missed that the article states that WinXP & OfficeXP is slower than Win2K & Office2k.
The tests seem non-scientific at best. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to bash MS, this isn't one.
And on the topic of the gui changes there are some really good general usability improvements (top right pixel of screen is now part of the closed button on a maximimzed window, bottom left pixel now is part of the start button target), task based interface etc.
But if you want to compare speed do it apples to apples Office2k on Win2k and WinXP.
And if you asked people if they would like to drive a 4 inch screw into their own temple with a screwdriver the answer would be different also. Both times because that is not the original question being asked.
I highly doubt Ben Franklin was taking into account international terroists making cell phone calls to plan flying into 110 story buildings with jet planes.
As far as Russia or China, no I wouldn't feel better. Safer? Quite possibly. But freedom and privacy are not one and the same.
I was referring to Afghanistan harboring bin Laden allowing him to act outside of international law without reprecussion. Refusing him to turn him over because "we asked him if he did it and he said no" (obviously paraphrasing) is rediculous. When the only proof of guilt is an admission of guilt we're all f*cked.
Second, what I was referring to was giving the government the right to tap but only act in cases of national security. Privacy, freedom and "democracy" aren't so tightly linked that you can't give up a portion of one without totally destroying the other.
How many innocent have to die to protect your privacy? Obviously somewhere more than 5,000. I value my privacy but if giving the government the right to eavesdrop on my phone saves one innocent life guess what, it's worth it. I'm not advocating a system that gives the government free reign to listen to and act on conversations freely but obviously there are cases where action is warranted. Sept 11 was one of them. If you want unrestricted freedom at the cost of others' lives, I'd suggest a one way ticket to Kabul.
In addition to the other benefits stored prcedures are useful in that you can apply logic to the data while it's still in the DB and cut down the amount of data being sent to the client for processing.
A better choice would be IBM's stored procedure language which is actually closer to SQL itself. People who are using MS-SQL are doing so (IMHO) because they don't know any better, they're not going to be going to MySQL. The target needs to be the DB2 / Oracle crowd.

I really wonder why none of the PC vendors I've seen use a similar swing-out case design.
the article didn't compare or contrast MP3's to other formats
C'mon people READ the article:
When compared with regular MP3s, Vorbis often produced more pleasant sounds, especially with woodwinds and percussion, but MP3 treated the human voice a little better. MP3Pro sounded better than MP3 overall, bringing out bass notes more and giving higher tones a better ring.
Sorry I can't provide better linkage but the filtering proxy server at work isn't letting me track down a link to a JAMMA arcade cabinet, but you could get one and combine it with an adapter from http://www.arcadegames.net/topsecretdcsarcadepage. htm, and a Sega Dreamcast, and the Namco greatest hits GD-ROM and get I believe all the games you listed. Throw in the Sega Smash pack and get Altered Beast, Sonic and some other goodies.
But that would make it a perfect kiosk/web client/static web page server. Anything where you don't want to worry about someone getting in and modifying your files. Just burn your files to CD-ROM boot the DC from it, something goes wrong there's always one solution, reboot. You need to change programs burn a new CD-ROM at current media prices it's a steal.
It's not a patent on a bottle cap, it's a patent on a linerless bottle cap. The distinction is important. They're not claiming to have invented putting a cap on a bottle of your favorite beverage, they've just invented perhaps a better way of doing it. R&D money would be wasted if there was no way to protect one's investment.
We should force japan to adopt the same values as civilised countries like the USA - we do not desire to spread our values everywhere and forge an Empire, so why should they be allowed to?
<sarcasm> Yes we must force them to adopt our values so they will not do nasty things like force people to adopt their values </sarcasm>
Nice reasoning. Hopefully this was just a rather successful troll, it's hard to imagine is really that stupid. (But unfortunately some people are)
DOn't forget that in addition to totally blind invidiuals there are also legally blind/visually blind person to take into account. A visually impaired person may be using something as simple as a High Constrast display with a screen magnifier, whereas a totally blind person will be using a screen reader. A good place to look for some contacts may be www.lionsclubs.org the Lions Clubs do alot with Visually Impared and blind persons and there may be a local chapter near you.
But still an interesting product.

MS *is* supporting USB 2.0 the drivers just weren't available to go into the RTM XP. I believe they are already available via Windows Update.

They've already invited Zulu to a tech convention in Las Vegas ;)
They can put the same successful marketing behind it that got OS/2 where it is today. Now that's an edge.

Hmm the ABC image of the fighter jet (granted in game) brings to mind one problem. What happens when you sneeze?
And the blind and v.i. people I know can do a better job of spelling than I just did *d'oh*
