One has to wonder why you find it necessary to voice your conservative opinions that aren't related to your job in the workplace. Could be that his coworkers are very vocal about their opinions. If it truly was a problem his bosses should be entitled to ask him to keep that stuff out of the work place, nothing more.

My 10.4.11 with Bootcamp froze for about five hours during the screen where the choice between your OSes comes up. It was just the grey background with neither hd icon showing. I thought everything was toast. Left for a while in despair and total frustration -- it wouldn't even go into OS X -- but it seemingly magically "worked itself out" after something like 5 hours. Strange. Anyway, installed Leopard immediately because Bootcamp was supposed to stop working when Leopard released anyway and my livelihood unfortunatley depends on using Windows every day on my machine. That sounds eerily like my Leopard installation. First attempt quickly told me that the hard drive was FUBAR, and needed a quick, swift format to be usable. I gasped and restarted without the DVD. Lo and behold, I couldn't boot!
Aw. Well, insert DVD, start disk utility - but wait! It couldn't detect my hard drive at all now. Then only my Windows partition. I left it to go agonize in a dark corner like some goth child, but magically, when I came back, everything was all right! It had detected the HDD, it could mount and test and install completely without any further hitches!
    That was nerve wracking.

Disclaimer: You get the general idea, the specifics might not be completely spot on nor in the correct order. But now everything works... :-D

To be honest, my personal experience with Windows Vista is not one I cherish nor want to repeat, but 3 times a week? I think I do more than that that requires me to authenticate on both Mac OS and Fedora during a week. That is, of course, depending on what you are doing to your computer, but power users tinker, and it's a good thing that tinkering requires authentication if it is exploitable.

The article you claim to have been duped is differently focused, isn't focusing negatively on Vista. In fact TFS mentions a vast improvement in boot time on the test rig. I know they didn't write "WE HEART VISTA", but that's hardly Vista-bashing.

In our university we have now completed the upgrate of 25 computer classrooms (35 computer each) from XP to Vista. At the moment, there havebeen no major problems. yes, the system has some problems and child diseases (like Abbles leopard) but that's just natural. Vista is a big step forwars security wise and it will get more and more polished with time. Good for you. In all likelihood the systems are similarly configured, in which case it'd be either "they all have the same problem" or not. The upshot of the new Vista installer, from what I've heard, is that spinning your own slipstreamed, customized install discs is no longer a giant hassle. I don't see how SP1 (1 year to release after OS (keeping our fingers crossed)) compares to Apple OS X 10.5.1 (1 month to release after OS).
