If you can buy virtual items in the game I am assuming you can sell them also? I don't see the value in adding real money to an online game unless you can profit. I guess that sounds mercenary. It sounds like it could be a side business or a hobby really instead of a game. It is like playing poker, except it is a game online and you play and then you exchange items instead of meeting your buddies up at the bar on a Wednesday night and playing poker and losing or gaining money that way. I don't see the allure, but I am not much of a gamer. I guess if people are happy playing and it is fun and they have the expendable cash. Whatever floats your boat I guess.
Thank you for the link, I am downloading the book and I will probably pour over it on my Christmas break. I don't think Perl is dead, there are jobs in my city with some high profile companies that need Perl developers. Just my two cents. I am not sure about other cities though.
Your PSA is true. I would like to be a web developer but I am sadly sometimes a web monkey. And I didn't design for much money when I did freelance work. A ballet school, drug testing facility, some free sites for people I knew. It was really content management if you think about it. I am trying to work on my back end skills but I don't have the time with being in school but after I graduate I will be able to get my skills up to date again. And Linux, I don't have a year to devote to learning the ins and outs of such a complicated OS.
The case doesn't make any sense. I live in Pittsburgh, and I can't imagine this case going anywhere. It seems they are giving her trouble over not replying in a timely fashion to the suit placed against her, but she has a legitimate excuse. Over a few songs, c'mon. It seems like a waste of time for the RIAA to even bother with such a small fish.
It is not like she is pirating and then trying to make a profit off of bootlegging copies for friends, etc.
I do agree that sickness is not a reason to not take care of your responsibilities, but in her case she is hospitalized. I am assuming her family would help with that. What a bunch of crap the RIAA is really, anal withstanding, LOL What a bizarre article.

It seems Clearwire might be a tentative venture just from the quick read I gave the article. If I invested in tech stocks in my portfolio, it might be worth buying a few shares and letting them sit for awhile to see what happens, never know.
I love how the Barney Fun Game encourages you to hurt him more with "You can do better than that!" silly stuff...:) I am going back to my online crossword puzzles and let Barney live another day.
Wow, well um, really tell us what you think of COD4.:) Don't be shy. Everyone here seems more interested in the games they play which is cool and not the article, it was interesting reading the findings. I really don't play online games, so I really don't have anything more to contribute.:)
The article said the methodology was collected using EmSense, it is the last page of the study. I could definitely not talk further about that, I understand the gathering of the information, but not the statistical analysis and I didn't read past the numbered findings.
I thought this article was worth reading. I am currently taking a senior level applied psychology course in which we read over the case study for Robber's Cave. If you are not familiar with it, here is a general finding from the study.
*When individuals having no established relationships are brought together to interact in group activities with common goals, they produce a group structure with hierarchical statuses and roles within it.*
What does this system or type of learning sound like to you? It sounds like the tried and true money/work system which everyone I know is so fond of. LOL:)
I don't think the findings are that surprising. It seems to me that younger age groups should probably start out with low level engagement or reward type games and then build up to the higher end engagement levels. Games with violence are obviously not for younger age groups, which is why there are age limits to certain violent or mature games.
As an adult, you have your own fail safes and mechanisms built in to determine your level of engagement in the game. I am more interested in the article and the findings, but I can't really give a coherent opinion on first person shooter games. I don't play them.
I think you will probably be getting a hybrid before a flying car it seems. The article sites that all of the major American car makers are going to come out with hybrids. I think it is a good thing that they are coming out with a hybrid Silverado or Tahoe and I am sure most people would agree. I want a flying car too.:)
But what about the Americans? We think we are so superior and if you think about, our country hasn't had much to feel very superior about in about 10 years. No major accomplishments lately for the ol' US of A.... I honestly didn't know that about EU presidency. Thanks for the insight on their process. Also, Cowpat, this article seems like it was posted before, I don't remember though.
Well here is my opinion about the three strikes law. France is very steeped in taking their time, they take long lunches and dinners, have more conversations in person over dinner I bet than in an online forum.
Repeated illegal file sharing is not a good thing IMHO. I guess they are just trying to weed out the people online that keep it up after being warned.
Maybe their thought process is, well people spend a lot of time online, why not treat it in the same way that you would in a real life situation.
Also, the French are not enforcers, their dogs poop everywhere, they don't have dog parks like we do, and people smoke everywhere there, even if it is prohibited, and not too much happens.
The three strikes deal sounds like a panacea or a band aid to me.
Well, I think people should be held accountable for this, fine their asses basically once and they will stop, it is the equilavent of a traffic ticket or a parking ticket, you know, just to bite them in the ass for doing this kind of crap on the internet. Have you ever been made fun of, someone logged into your account, someone pretended to be you, someone sent gay porn or grandma porn or some crap to your email and you knew it was stupid assholes playing around on the internet with a "malicious" intent? That is the problem in my opinion, malice=crime, plain and simple!!!!!
I am a female, not much of a programmer, maybe a bit for the web, but I don't code anymore. I lost my enthuiasm for it somehow. I did like your poem, very funny stuff actually. If you want my take on female programmers vs. male programmers, I don't think it should matter, as long at the playing ground is FAIR.
How many of your co workers are talking about your screen saver of Claudia Schiffer or penis pics your boss has of animal genitalia or whatever, the point is, male or female in the work place you talk about WORK, LOL

In COD, do you play on your own or is there a team of people you play with to accomplish your mission?
