They do spot gifted students. But, I don't think they can figure out how to help most of them.
Easy. Point them to Google, give a few examples of usage, point them in a decent direction then get out of their fucking way! Check once in a while to see how things are going. That's about it.
It's the "rest of the class" who really need help.
If you live in a democracy keep this in mind: 0) The stupid and ignorant people outnumber the smart and knowledgeable ones. 1) Voters don't need to be geniuses in order to vote
Therefore it is definitely a good idea to help the stupid and ignorant be less stupid and ignorant.
If one day the robots become too competitive, who will feed and clothe the stupid and ignorant? Will we keep humans who are no longer competitive around as nonvoting, well treated pets and restrict their reproductive rights[1]?
The energy crisis it solves will be for stuff like jet planes.
I think this technological branch has a better chance of producing solar powered 900+kph airliners than improvements in battery and motor technology. At least it'll do it earlier.
So if 20% of you prefer C, but keep voting B, why in the world should B ever become like C? Think about it. Do you really object to "A"'s policies that much? After all I keep hearing people keep saying there's not much difference between "A" and "B".
If A and B combined keep winning more than 97% of the votes why should they change much when the voters have basically said "keep doing what you're doing".
So people like you are a bunch of idiots. All your stupid voting games are fine if there is only ONE election and no future elections. Have you been winning the game you're playing? Do you think you can win?
Stop complaining that your leaders don't do enough of what you want if you keep voting for leaders who have stated up front that they won't.
Sure, there's always Sport (football, hockey etc). Gather together, sing songs, worship your gods, sometimes hate the other side, maybe even try to kill them.
There's also Apple. Or environcultism (check out PETA).
If you mean completely no religion or anything that looks like it, then sure when most humans get wiped out.
There's also the placebo effect. If a soldier prays to God to relieve his pain and the pain is relieved that soldier becomes more effective. Even if that soldier dies eventually, he could help the rest of his army for longer.
In contrast it's harder to self-administer the placebo effect if you're a 100% strict atheist. So even if God doesn't exist, if the placebo effect exists, it could be evolutionary advantageous to believe in at least one God (and a helpful one;) ).
And to the people who think the answer to whether God exists is so simple, I ask: "How can you be so sure that things are so simple?". This universe sure isn't that simple and boring. From what I see every time the scientists think they understand the universe they've been finding more strange things about it. Heck they can't even explain why this strange phenomena called consciousness exists. In theory there shouldn't be any need for it right? In theory everything could be happening without the need of this phenomena. So if it weren't for you personally observing that you can observe, Occam's Razor would be cutting out the existence of consciousness right?
If you were God you could choose to be in a superposition in this universe, if your children believe you exist, there is constructive interference (there is light), if they don't there is destructive interference and you don't exist for them (darkness).
Doh. If you do that when you get pwned it's trivial for the malware to set things up so that it runs whenever you login.
Whereas with my way, it is much harder for the malware to do that. It could perhaps set itself to run whenever the browser runs - plugin/extension, but it has no access to your main user account. It only has access to what you allow the browser account to access.
And who but you is even talking about running stuff as administrator? If you install stuff as admin, but run stuff as some other user, that makes it harder for the executables to be changed.
Wait I thought there was always this "intention" thing? So does that mean bus/taxi/train drivers should get the same 8 year sentence? So you should never carpool either and drive alone?
It has to be much safer. Maybe as safe as elevators. Because such stuff reduces the effect of your genetics in avoiding fatalities.;)
For example say an automated vehicle is 10% safer. If people drove themselves there would be 10% more fatalities, but over a few generations it could get fewer and fewer (if the selection pressure is enough - if it isn't then traffic safety isn't that important compared to other pressures right?).
Similarly for the extreme sports stuff - it might be bad for some of the participants but good for the gene pool quality and spread;).
You are right, taxis alone would tend to increase traffic load assuming mostly "single passenger" customers, not all trips being full, and all customers being able to get a taxi promptly.
However if you view taxis as part of the whole public transportation system then taxis can help reduce traffic load. How it works is if most people use the train/subway/bus to travel about because they know that if they need to go to some place where the train/bus doesn't go to, a taxi can get them there in reasonable time and cost.
If taxis are too expensive and buses/subways inadequate then more people will resort to using private cars.
Reason is I haven't managed to get the "runas" thing to work for Google Chrome and recent versions of IE.
Chrome and IE do sandboxing, I don't know whether that's enough for exploits like this. In contrast if you run firefox as restricted User A, and it somehow can run stuff as User B the OS has a serious bug. There have been such bugs, but they are a lot rarer than bugs in browsers, pdf viewers, flash etc.
For banking stuff I run a different browser using yet another user account. So they can pwn my facebook browser, but the hacker has to be really targeting me to pwn my bank browser. While they can pwn me if they really want, from what I see they are more likely to target the bank - more $$$ for the effort. Even I have found security issues with online bank sites before, so it's not like banks are that much harder to hack than me.
I recommend that people run Firefox as a different user from the user account they use to log in. On Windows you can use the runas command.
You have to give your main user account full permissions to the browser user account, so that you can copy files that the browser downloads etc.
Make sure firefox is installed using either the main or admin account, NOT the browser account. This prevents the browser account from doing too many changes to the executables. However this means you'll need to update the browser using the main/admin account, but this could be considered a feature not a bug;).
Once you do that if you get hit by a drive by, most of the usual startup stuff[1] will only take effect if you ever log in as the browser user account. But since you only log in as your normal main user account, the stuff doesn't run. If you ever need to run as the browser account, make sure you clean stuff up before you do. If you are using windows, load the registry hive to check etc.
[1] Other stuff could be installed. If you're using Linux "crontabs" and "at" stuff might be able to be configured. However if you set stuff up correctly the damage is limited - since the browser account won't have access to your data. On Windows normal users can't use "at" by default.
Then don't. You go to the nonsmoking pub, since there would be non-smoking pubs given a high enough tax/license fee level.
Whereas the smokers who want to smoke and drink can go to the smoking pubs which pay the extra taxes and license fees.
Set the fees at the right level and you'll have a mix of both sort of pubs, restaurants etc.
If you have difficulty setting the level, find out the number of licensed pubs (not difficult) then auction off a percentage of "smoking pub licenses". e.g. if there are 100 pubs in one area, sell 30 smoking pub permits at an auction. You could have the permits last for 5 years. Of course if the buyers are crazy they might overpay and go bust... But I guess you won't be too upset about that.
It's great for the nonsmokers- the last I checked the smokers cost NHS an extra 5 billion pounds a year, but the tobacco taxes are 10 billion a year.
And as I said by not banning smoking and just charging smoking pubs etc more, I'm sure you can add a bit more. 50000 pubs in the UK (which apparently contribute about 6 billion/year). Maybe squeeze half a billion more. And they might still make more money - I doubt the smoking bans are helping them.
They do spot gifted students. But, I don't think they can figure out how to help most of them.

I think the judge wasn't trying very hard.
I don't think they intend to put this on the market yet. It's just one of the steps they need to take for a more automated car.
I think the real density is elsewhere ;).
Or swerving off a cliff instead of hitting the side of it (perhaps intentionally - to slow down brakes fail etc).

Taxi drivers try not to make too many empty trips. They make more money that way.
With more intelligent systems the proportion of empty trips should go down.

but I have never personally seen work done where the contractor owned the end result.
Check out wedding photographers in some countries.
What's the percentage of cabs in Manhattan traffic now?
Would the cabs being cheaper and more plentiful cause actual traffic to go down since fewer people would use private cars?
Has he started going around in a mask and cape yet?
Yeah, there are now faster and better FSs, but perhaps Reiser would be a great option as well.
The problem is vendor lock-in.
ORLY? What percentage of the following movies have the bad guy as a Christian nutcase:

Then I'd bid zero for all and corner the market for smoking pubs. Even if I'm a nonsmoker I think I'd make some money out of it.
