What the heck do we need this for?? As a previous user commented - use a cell phone, use a cordless phone - this makes little or no sense to me. Technology for the sake of technology is not practical!
This device uses a 'cellular-modem' protocol called WAP. WAP is totally proprietary, but it is a healthy step in the direction that all of the cellular network designers are headed. Today, the cellular networks are implementing GPRS technologies into their existing networks, and are headed toward an implementation in the next 4-5 years of a protocol called 3G (3rd Generation!) Essentially, all of these protocols are aimed at providing wireless access to Data, and to converging the mess of cellular standards here in the USA. The WAP protocol that 3Com has deployed over Sprint's network, does support up to 9600 Baud...the 3G migrating standard promises more like 115K.

Assuming that in your answer one might find a marginally (at best) acceptable example...it has nothing to do with anything other than the load in the PC environment created by the OS. You are obviously NOT technically literate! Stick to what you know... Performance is indeed necessary for 3D rendering, response to control input, speed of simulation etc...regardless what the output video feed is!! I suppose you see no difference between an ATARI 2600 and a Sony Playstation!? You're an idiot!
I am not shocked at this move on Lucas' part, but I am disappointed. I have also been a VERY loyal fan including getting my kids involved with this thing that was so great for me as a kid. I think we should all go out of our way to boycott the VHS sales!! GET REAL - Most of his fans will PAY for the DVD anthology when it is released...we won't copy it!
