I've installed a number of programs as "User", without root access. Download an alpha or beta of Firefox, extract it onto your desktop, and run it. It works fine. No system changes at all. You have a problem with the alpha? Just send the entire folder to the trashbin. No problemo.

In my case, I run my VM's on my gateway machine anyway, so I just give it access to my physical eth0, connected to the internet, or to eth1, connected to the LAN. There's an option to create a virtual network among your virtual machines, and you can pick and choose which machines has access to that network.
As a seperate issue, are shared resources on the host's hard drive. I can share any folders I choose, or none at all.

Each and every machine has to be set up uniquely, by way of a wizard, and you have to consciously choose each parameter along the way. Choosing the wrong parameters will likely give you a non-working machine, if the wizard even finishes creating the machine.

Apparently, you're not especially familiar with virtual machines. You can isolate the machines, so that they are never aware of each other, or you can set up networking between them, or you can allow them to simply share resources on hard disk. It all depends on the administrator's goals how they are set up. I can allow a WinXP VM to bet so infested with malware that it can't even boot up, but it has zero effect on a similar WinXP VM running on the same hardware. Well - aside from consuming CPU cycles, which will necessarily slow down the second VM, along with the host. But, the infections will stay isolated in that first VM, unless I'm sharing folders in one manner or another.

I'm using a Gnome desktop on Ubuntu Intrepid. I right click the desktop icon at the bottom right of the desktop, and I get a GUI menu in which I can do exactly that. It takes all of about 5 seconds.
As for identifying them, each desktop icon has an icon in it, identifying which application is maximized in it. I don't know if that meets your requirements, or if not, why not. You didn't mention what distro you use, or what desktop environment.

I beg to differ with you. We most definitely have a huge criminal element who comes here, with NO DESIRE to become citizens. Drug mules, money launderers, etc etc ad nauseum. Oh yeah, the human trafficers.
But, aside from the worst of criminals - most of our 20 million ILLEGAL ALIENS became criminals by reason of having come here ILLEGALLY. The United States is, after all, a sovereign nation, which has the right and obligation to limit immigration. Millions are breaking the law by being here. Hence, criminals. We don't need no more criminals - we have more than enough.

Apparently, you're not especially familiar with virtual machines. You can isolate the machines, so that they are never aware of each other, or you can set up networking between them, or you can allow them to simply share resources on hard disk. It all depends on the administrator's goals how they are set up. I can allow a WinXP VM to bet so infested with malware that it can't even boot up, but it has zero effect on a similar WinXP VM running on the same hardware. Well - aside from consuming CPU cycles, which will necessarily slow down the second VM, along with the host. But, the infections will stay isolated in that first VM, unless I'm sharing folders in one manner or another.

I readily acknowledge that there are women who can best me in any competition in which men "should win". That doesn't mean that I can't beat 99.9% of women handily - just that it isn't NECESSARY to be weak to be a woman. As for whether they are freaks - well, that is largely the individual's perception of themselves. Personally, I respect strong women.

What burns me up is the push by the liberals to have our school systems working hard to OVERTURN all the role models we've learned. I've actually counseled young men and women that they SHOULDN'T get married and have kids as soon as they graduate from school. (Either high school, or college) I've encouraged them to explore the world, to try different jobs, to get some "life experience" before they are tied down to half a lifetime of raising kids.

I'm using a Gnome desktop on Ubuntu Intrepid. I right click the desktop icon at the bottom right of the desktop, and I get a GUI menu in which I can do exactly that. It takes all of about 5 seconds.
As for identifying them, each desktop icon has an icon in it, identifying which application is maximized in it. I don't know if that meets your requirements, or if not, why not. You didn't mention what distro you use, or what desktop environment.
