More than anything the large address space was intended to deal w/ the growth of the core routing tables, along w/ allowing for cleaner auto-addressing (DHCPv6 is more for providing DNS server addresses instead of address allocation), IP mobility, and anonymous addressing. There's also the side benefit that network scanning becomes pretty damn hard...
In truth every book suggested here could work -- as long as you have already read it, or read it along with your kids. What's most important is the discussion you have about the stories: did you like it, did it resonate with you, scare you, make you question what life is like today?
Putting things into context also matters. By itself Starship Troopers is a fun story. As a criticism against the structure of the US military during the Vietnam war it takes on a whole different light.
