I am employed by HP through an acquisition and wish I had started looking for a new job instead of waiting to see what the new organization had in store for me.
The reality of the situation for me was that it took so long to complete the acquisition that our team was effectively in limbo for almost a year. Those of us that did weather the long painful integration jumped through tons of hoops just so we could get back to some sort of daily routine. As someone in a customer service role, I could see how the constant internal policy changes drastically affected customers.
Not to say that acquisition is always a bad thing. Depending on where you fall on the org chart there may be opportunity to work on logistics for the acquisition/integration itself, the individuals in our group that performed this function got the recognition and the nice jobs elsewhere in the company. However, these people were few and far between, far fewer than those that left the company and didn't stick around to go through the integration exercises.
I'm in the process of looking for a new position now, but in retrospect I wish I hadn't wasted my time waiting as it resulted in a year of needless headaches, IMHO.
