Vivendi/Universal may not be the only people to get angry at Valve for their use of Steam to distribute HalfLife2.
Currently the Halflife2 preloads are optional downloads, but there is no indication of the *size* of these downloads. Outside of the USA many people are charged for excess downloads on Broadband. As an example, http://www.bigpond.com/ (Telstra Bigpond) here in Australia charges AU$0.15 per extra megabyte. One of the recent preloads was approximately 1gb of data. An unsuspecting family which was already at it's download limit would be up for AU$150 in charges for that download alone (which happens in the background, and can continue after a reboot) - close to double the price of the game itself.
When will the first "Customer sues Valve" postings begine ?
Note: Please don't change the topic to "ISPs shouldnt charge for excess" - the point is that some still do.
An MP3 player on the GBA would be pretty limited, considering it only has mono sound output
The GBA has stereo sound output through the headphones, it is only mono when using the internal speaker (and many games have a mono/stereo setting in the game to take advantage of this)
The customer reviews for the product at Lik Sang, as well as the review over at ShackNews both talk about scratchy sound quality and low frame-rates. Neither talk about the emulators (since they are reviewing the earlier model, I assume) - but for the price you can't really go wrong can you ?
I think this is the actual product homepage, but it isn't much more informative.
We're trying to create a driveable encyclopedia of cars and racing history
Being Open Source, or not-for-profit, does not give you the right it ignore the rights of the owners of real world cars, tracks, logos, drivers, etc. Have you approached the owners of the things in your game to make sure you have the right to use them ?
There is a great deal more cost in gaming outside the sourcecode development costs and Open Source will not magically make those free.
The gaming industry pays a huge amount of licensing money for the right to make games based on real-world cars, sportspeople, movies, planes, etc. If your driving simulator becomes popular then expect a call from many different lawyers.
Can someone please send a pigeon over to DARPA to pick up a copy of the DVD image and bring it back ? Then we can get on with torrenting it.
On the other hand - it's going to take me 35 hours to download @ 10kb/sec, but thats still faster than flying in a 767 from here (Melbourne, Australia) to DARPA and back!
I've got to ask this... since the founder of VISA is Dee Hock, is there any connection with his name and the term "Going into hock" ?
note: I looked it up and it appears not - but I was hoping it would be up there with 'Bobbies' (British Police, 'Peelers' prior to that) and "going for a crap" (the toilet) for slang terminology created from the inventor/instigators name.

Ok... better than TV, I can buy that, but better than sex... Cthugha's a great addition to sex, but I'd hardly say it was better... (or maybe I'm just lucky:-) Cthugha98 sourcecode... well, I had originally thought of trying to do a registered version, to make a couple of dollars from my efforts, but I can never convince myself that there's something there worth paying for. I've kept that sourcecode under wraps to prevent unscrupulous people taking advantage of it (as they have done). I will release the code, after I update it and make it worthy of a new release - hopefully sooner rather than later... Zaph (still with the Wild Turkey) Author of Cthugha http://www.torps.com
