There is a nearly limitless amount of energy, the planet has been collecting energy from the sun. Mother nature has figured out how to capture, store and use energy in a clean and fairly efficient way. I don't plan on stopping using energy, I just want to have a system that captures, stores and uses energy cleanly and more efficiently then we currently do.
This notion that energy is a limited commodity is a waste of my time, which is a limited commodity.

Card lost his mind. He's a fanatical religious hate-monger. He proposed violently overthrowing the government if gays are given the right to marry.
Reference please, or are you too busy being a non-religious "hate-monger" that is too busy pointing fingers of blame at every point of view that is not your own.
I am all for having a level of standards for safety and in the case of automobiles, at least here in the US there are minimal levels of safety mandated for most cars every year.
The issue here is that this municipal government is trying to solve a problem that is only a problem for a small group, in this case the bus companies, with out looking at how the solutions effect the society as a whole.
My concern with this issues is that an industry (the bus companies) are complaining about a solution to a social issue (easier car pool matching) because it makes it harder for them to their job. Running home to mommy (the government) because someone has a better idea is a poor use of government and is unfortunately the universal solution to those who lack ideas.
A child pornographers might be using the internet to spread their filth so let's monitor all traffic so that we can keep out children safe.
Come on people, if we regulated everything that some one could abuse then we would regulate everything. What about the people that looked at this unregulated mini bus with an amateur driver and said, "never mind, I will drive in on my own, there is no way I am getting in to that bus when I was expecting a car."
The governments job is to do things that I am unable to do on my own, like build a road or a bridge. It should not also do my thinking for me, of course there are many people who can't do that for them selves either.
So where did they get the image of the Hourglass Nebula, NASA. They would have no grounds for going after anyone that used an image of an object in space as part of their logo or CD cover. Maybe if the astronomy club directly took your companies logo and pasted their name on to it they would have a case.
I hate to say this but "Scrabulous" is not innovative. There was nothing new and was instead created as a direct copy of a successful product.
I am sorry to inform you but copying something is not innovation, remember our "friends" in Redmond have been improperly accused of innovation for the same thing.
Ok, is this a good development, yes and no. Superfluous patents are hindrance to further innovation this will in no way make everything magically open. Things that are closed source, with be even more closed source. Companies that have been mulling opening up their source will think twice about opening their source.
With no patent protection the only protection that they have for their investment is obfuscation. Google is a great example of this, naming something PageRank does not make it magically search better. It is the algorithm that makes it work better, nothing in this would make Google share their algorithm.
There is no for profit organization in the world that will make a large investment in anything with out some way to mitigate the risk of the investment. While the open source community has shifted its business model to focus on support instead of licensing that has not proven to been a sustainable model for a market share leading operating system or software application.
Apple and Microsoft won't look at this change and think "gee, let's open source all our work!" Instead, they will look at solutions that will be even more laden with restrictions and obfuscation.

Now you want to have a nightly Barley Tax?

Nice try but think a little harder next time.
