Buying mainstream music albums to support the musician is like buying things from Walmart to support the indonesians working in sweat shops. The system exploits musicians and gives them a tiny percentage of what the public is willing to pay while keeping them trapped in distribution channels which further their exploitation.
Software released under the GPL is one of the few things other than the government that is owned by everyone. A violation of this agreement is a violation against everyone. A violation against our musicians is a violation against everyone too.
When Netscape made it's web browser free, it set a precident for browsers in the future. Today, nobody would even consider paying for a web browser like a regular piece of software. I predict Microsoft will make their OS free in the near future, to keep competitive with free alternatives.
and a few other misspellings of "askjeeves". I simply redirect to ask.com, but make 2 cents for each clickthru.:) Traffic is dropping, cause they're moving towards the much simpler "ask.com", but it's a nice source of no-work income.
This bill would be bad for companies that make quality computer. Why buy a Dell when you can buy an Acer and the government forces them to fix every time it goes haywire. Survival of the fittest, good. Government regulation, bad.
Things that are "real" - physical objects - are in a slump these days in light of all the cool new digital stuff, but they'll make a comeback once our glazed eyes get tired of our monitors.
ShouldExist.org is a band-aid on some of the problems with the patent system. It acts as an intellectual property repository and a place where anyone can post their ideas. All ideas, patentable or not, are released into the public domain as "reverse patented". They can be used by anyone for anything and act as "prior art", preventing ideas from being patented by someone else with more selfish intentions.
