Yeah, but they also don't go to Slashdot by typing http://slashdot.org8237948 because 8 million people before them had the same idea.

  2. How about a SpamCop-like system? on Web Designers Ignoring Standards and Support IE Only · · Score: 1

How feasable would it be to develop a Spam-Cop like system where, if you came across a page that did not render correctly, you could copy/paste the URL into a form. From that URL, contact emails would be intelligently parsed out/located and a polite email would be sent to the responsible parties explaining how their page was non-compliant, as well as the browser ID of the complaining user.

This might get more "Joe Average" users involved in bringing the issue to the attention of those responsible.

How much is their PC network worth, anyway?

What does couple of NICs and a length of CAT5 run these days?

  4. Both test boxes were running Windows? on Tom's Hardware KVM Roundup · · Score: 1

I'm somewhat dissapointed that Tom used Windows on *both* test boxes. I say this, because I have experienced a quirk with my Belkin F1D104 4 port KVM, switching between Win98SE and Linux.

After switching back and forth a few times, the key repeat seems to drop back to the BIOS default when in X. The only way I've found to recover from it is to restart X.

More like, I want to be able to access my music collection from anyplace that has web access, without having to physically carry my CDs around with me. Next time, think before you post, dumbass.

Yeah, you're right... Whenever I'm on the move and want some jams, the first thing I think about is where I can find me a computer with a net connection so I can try my luck at getting a 128K datastream that doesn't rebuffer every 2 minutes. Hear those multimedia PeeeeCeee speakers rock the house!

Perhaps I am the exception to the rule. But, if I had the desire to have available my CD collection via MP3, I would just setup an MP3 server, encode my tunes to a butt huge cheapy IDE drive and serve my own stream.

But, I won't, because the idea just strikes me as brame. As if the internet doesn't suffer enough from congestion, you feel the necessity to add to it by streaming multiple instances of the same data repeatedly. And, why??! Because you're too lazy to drop some discs in a case on the way out the door?

To each his/her own, I suppose.

  6. Lighten up! on Cheap Rackmount Enclosures/Systems? · · Score: 1

That is just not true. One's views on software licensing has nothing thing to do with the fact that they want their hardware mounted neat and secure. Geez, man. Just because your room's a mess don't try to put a guilt trip on the guy for wanting to clean his up.

In any event, I'm afraid you're gonna be hard pressed to find a "cheap" rack mount solution. One possibility would be to use "utility shelves". These are simply rack mounted shelves that you can then set two tower cases on. Depending on the height, they generally run anywhere from $40 to $60 each. Three shelves and a 6' open rack would run you about $300 to $350.
