    EA bought Origin midway through development of VII.

    VIII and IX were notably worse than the previous titles (a quick look at ratings online has VII at 8.8 and IX at 6.5). The series died after that. Or more accurately, was zombified, with EA closing the studio and making browser-based Ultima titles.

    They won't necessarily break it.

    Sure, they broke Bullfrog, maker of classics like Populous and Theme Park and Syndicate.
    And they turned the innovative Maxis into a factory for churning out neighbor-killing simulations.
    And they killed Westwood, creators of the wildly successful Command & Conquer franchise.
    And they wrecked multiple Ultima titles after acquiring Origin.

    But Bioware's been doing okay under them, so far. So maybe there's hope?

There are plenty of bulbs, including incandescents, that meet the new standard. You've been tricked into believing a lie. That's not you're fault.     You might as well say that fuel efficiency standards equate to a ban on cars. Yes, you can no longer mass produce Model T's. But incandescent bulbs are and will remain legal. You have simply fallen for a goddamned lie. Rather than recognize that you were tricked, you are now insisting that the lie is true. You are the one who is the "ignorant fooled into being ruled".

    Nope, still idiotic. All of the light-bulb manufacturers have already begun producing incandescent bulbs that meet the new standards. The "ban" is just a lie that you've fallen for. Wake up.

    There never was! There are new efficiency standards, which both GE and Osram Sylvania say they can meet with new incandescents. The whole thing started as a talking point for a Republican primary, and took off when the punditry caught a whiff of it and smelled red meat.

    So we should just start driving down the streets murdering people, just to prove how easy it is and show that gun laws should change? There are better ways to effect change. Steal the passwords, burn them to some DVDs, mail them to some congressmen, and maybe a newspaper. Don't publicly distribute them.

  16. Yes, that's pretty accurate. Including the part where trying to quit cold turkey (what the Republicans want) will kill you. Stepping down carefully, through the $4 trillion in cuts proposed by Obama (and rejected by the GOP), is the smart thing to do.

    The Democrats never controlled the Senate, except for a period of a few months, and even then it was only if count Lieberman as a Democrat. The Republican willingness to abuse the filibuster led us to a state of minority rule, in which our country was held hostage by the representatives of barely over a third of its population.

    Obama offered a plan for $4 trillion in deficit cuts, with 75% coming from spending cuts (including cuts to entitlement programs). The Republicans turned it down, because in their minds even $100B a year in tax hole closures and rate increases is too much. They are now pursuing only a $2T deficit reduction package, all because they care more about their rich benefactors than the economy.

    So don't go saying both sides are unreasonable. The Democrats have been perfectly reasonable. It's the tea-baggers that are the problem.

    Taxes pay for the government, which sure as all hell creates jobs. Tax cuts, however, give money to the rich who invest it...overseas.

    I agree that social programs should be means tested, but that alone won't balance the budget. We need to raise taxes back to a reasonable level. Obama offered $3 trillion in spending cuts in exchange for $1 trillion in taxes. It was the idiot Republicans who refused. They'd rather this country die in poverty than raise a single dollar in taxes from their rich benefactors.

    There's no guarantee. In past years, congress was sane. Now it's dominated by idiot tea-baggers who don't really understand the enormity of their actions. Like you, they think that not raising the limit would somehow put us on the track to a balanced budget. It would not. It would devastate the economy, decrease tax receipts, and quite possibly plunge us into a depression. You don't know what you're talking about. You're just duck-speaking the "facts" fed to you by conservative pundits.
