  1. It's true, but on The Rise Of The Chickclickers · · Score: 3

"Five years ago, there were not that many women on the Internet," Carol Kovac, a vice president at the Watson Research Center at I.B.M. told the New York Times recently.

This statement is true, but there were not many people at all on the internet (relative to today).

I also wonder about what portion of the demographic is made up of the retired community. It seems to me now that my grandma spends more time surfing the internet and writing email each day than I do.

Now that's the way it was, and we liked it, because we din't have nuthin' else.

This is a good point. From my point of view as a mechanical engineer, the fuel economy of simple H2 is so low compared to that of gasoline that one would have to store a lot more mass of fuel in order to drive a normal distance between refueling. This means that the production of H2 would have to be significantly high in order to drop prices to where the everyday consumer could afford to drive a H2 car.

The person, or group, who is doing this is about to cause some major problems between the government and the at-large computing community. I can see in the near future a large amount of time and money being spent in a futile effort to stop this behavior. This will surely result in a lot of unfair laws and regulations being imposed upon those persons who are not malicious. In effect, the government will punish the innocent, as usual.

This can be avoided by using one of tho simple methods:

    1. Simply stop. If the person, or group, involved has no demands, or motive, they should stop this foolishness immediately. This is not a glorious solution, but if there is no message to be portrayed, then please, don't hurt the fight against the MAN (meaning big business).

    2. Take credit and state the message. This is the solution with the flair. The group involved should find a way to get their message out to the public, and freely state that this is a true battle against the power of the MAN.

  18. Great Idea - Terrible Use on U.S. Army Developing Prototype Holodeck · · Score: 1

It is really horrible that any major innovation that the United States government has is immediately used to either kill people or find a way to kill people before it is used to help society.

There are many examples of this (the department of energy laboratory at Los Alamos rings a bell,) and this continuing trend makes me sick.

This unit could be used to train doctors, or teach teenagers to drive, but instead, our government is using it to develop new weapons. Great.

Is there some unwritten rule that any advance in technology must assist in the killing of at least 100,000 people before it can be helpful to society?
