AFAIK, china is the only civilization that hand endured for thousands of years without major interruptions. maybe US could learn something from them before this current decadence proccess becomes irreversible.

While it may be true that China has done relatively well (I'm a computer engineer, so I'm taking that statement at face value) for that long, I don't think that exploiting the crap out of our population while ignoring long-term effects of our actions is a good path to go down...

Now, again, if Obama lowers the oil prices, then, he would be fomenting terrorism in the region.

So, if Obama lowers oil prices, it's bad, but would you consider it a bad thing if Bush/McCain lowered oil prices?

If he completely cuts off the middle east from importing oil, and thus, starves them all to do death, then don't you think that economic dislocation would cause more terrorism, rather than less?

If Obama did so, there is still an international market for oil, so their exports wouldn't go to nothing. Also, wouldn't doing so be the opposite of your hypothetical up above, as this would decrease our supply of oil, and thus increase oil price?

And forgive me if I'm mistaken, but is that something Obama has actually said he plans on doing? It seems more like you preemptively giving yourself a justification for the situation in Iraq looking bad at a time in the future if Obama happens to be the President, when in reality Iraq is going to look bad at numerous times in the future regardless of any decisions made from here out.

If you raise sufficient attention (say by encrypting your trivial email) they may even park a black van down the street with a bunch of electronic equipment in the back.

That's the goal, I'd imagine. If we get them to waste enough resources on spying on ordinary citizens, we hope they will realize that it is hopeless.

In reality, they would probably come to the conclusion that they need to profile people better before they decide to spend such resources.

From the last link about senators complaining:

Among their fears: Americans could be targeted in part based on their race, ethnicity or religion

    and

Citing remarks earlier by Mukasey about the new rules, the spokesman said an investigation would not be opened based solely on a person's race, ethnicity or religion.

That isn't the problem. I'm glad that they are attempting to slow it down and stop it, but why does it have to boil down to racism for them to stop it? Why can't they just say "this is completely against what the founders of our country intended"...?

... they only last a certain number of read-write cycles...

It is the write cycle that limits them - you can read from it as much as you want. Still, I was under the impression that most flash drives will last longer than a typical burned CD will (pressed CDs may be a different story) even if you very rigorously use the flash drive. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

...and let me know how many average users can modify a flash drive.

Let's assume that the parent was speaking of modifying the data on the data medium, and not opening up the flash drive to physically modify it.

Remember when AOL used to spew out those CDs to pimp their dialup service? I use to use them as coasters for my coffee cup.

I also remember AOL giving out so many floppy disks that I never had to buy my own since neighbors/friends just gave them to me saying "here, you can use these, right?"

Then when they changed to CDs, it took about two years before some people caught on that I couldn't reuse those in quite the same way...

Amen to that. I don't want to say that there is absolutely no interesting strategy in realistic-ish FPS games, but it is incredibly weak compared to a deathmatch game in a 1on1, 2on2, or 4on4 setting where everyone involved has a solid understanding of what is important. People who spend the time to figure out tricks to deathmatch games always find creative ways to achieve their goals and deceive their enemies.
