Reminds me of stories of wagon builders long ago... Teams of 3 getting the job done, 2 of them actually hammering away while the third sat down, often reading the newspaper aloud. Keeps the other guys informed, distracted from the drudgery, and generally happy among their peers. The sit-down guy would be switched during breaks.
There's at least one sketch or photo of this in US history textbooks out there, though I don't know what it's called.
I don't know... The "unlimited access to 1,000,000" is something both Napster and Yahoo are pushing. I've been using Yahoo's for only a few days now, and the $7/month covers me listening to a whole lot of CDs I've always wanted to listen to. Most of them I wouldn't have taken a chance on purchasing, and definitely wouldn't now that I have listened to them. Still, that's a lot of access to a lot of music even if I don't get to keep it.
Now that downloading copyrighted content is illegal, all those pirates are now going to have to find a new place where they can legally download copyrighted content.
Next thing you know, Sweden will start passing laws outlawing murder and arson, and once again, countries without laws banning murder and arson will see an influx of immigrants who can't live under the oppressive rules of that Swedish regime.
Write to your congressman and make sure that they don't pass laws making illegal activities illegal! It's our only hope.
Dude. Seriously.... I was only arguing that it's not the bread or wine that is special, nor even the preist, but the presence of Jesus Christ. I never once said that the bread and wine are not transformed in the process, because I never even got close to describing the sacrament.
I certainly never expected anyone to even read it that way... I live in Texas, and hear quite regularly from protestants that communion is a symbolic act, or at the very least, something far short of how Catholics regard it. I don't get 10 seconds into explaining why they can't take communion in the Catholic church before they change subject and ask if I've accepted Jesus as my personal savior.
Indeed... I intentionally didn't go that deep into the thing, but if it was only spiritual, there'd be no need to even consume the host. The preist could just bless the congregation and be done with it (ignoring "do this in memory of me" for the sake of argument)....
I don't care too much fretting over glutin and physical accident arguments. Reason being that sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch are merely impulses fed to our brain by the body, and those senses are already quite limited to begin with. Why rely on them to tell me what's going on with a consecrated host?
Catholics see the body and bread as a physical vessel of the spiritual body and blood of Jesus Christ. After all, before it's blessed, it's just bread, and after it's digested, it's goes down the toilet. It simply doesn't matter much what it's made of physically, in the same way it doesn't matter at all what people are made of physically... we all turn back to dust in the end.
If there's one thing that's a reported definite in Sun, it is that they've decided on GNOME for their desktop environment on Solaris sometime in the near future.... I think JDS was a nice experiment at rebranding of both Suse and GNOME software, but never really a serious product with R&D devoted to improving software upstream from it. To make matters more complex, Suse joining the Novell fold has made a mess of the Suse and Ximian desktop offerings. Novell up top seems to be aiming for a losely defined linux services platform in the mold of IBM, not a strongly defined Linux desktop and distribution product. No reason they should go for the later either, since that market is decently covered by other products from other companies.
So, Sun had JDS which is derived from a distrtibution (Suse) that is not nice to GNOME (wtg, germans), and are giving up on it. No biggie, IMHO.
I agree... If the univeristy cared so much about what recording industry thinks, it should be worth it to the university to get raked over the coals with a wrongful termination lawsuit.
Okay, since you explained why you used "hypocritical"....
The thing is, I'm not being a hypocrite. Though I've only got my name to one ChangeLog entry in Gtk+, I'm more than happy to see people use Gtk+ in non-free software. I want everyone to be able to use the toolkits and libraries I use and occassionally fix bugs on, not just the people who want to develop free software. RMS and GNU use the term "lesser" because of the non-viral freedom, but personally, I think it's far more free.
If you want to charge for your QT-based software, you have to pay for a QT license. If you want to release free QT software you don't have to pay for anything. Sounds totally fair to me... you want something for nothing?
"If you can't make enough money from your apps in order to pay for quality set of tools, then I think you are in the wrong line of business."
How about this.... If you force people to pay money to make software based on what is touted as a free software platform, you are in the wrong line of culture.
"Why whine about Qt/TT?"
Because the grandparent asked for my point of view, and because there's way too many irrational KDE cheerleaders on Slashdot that take every oppritunity to protect their platform and Trolltech.
My problem with the Qt toolkit is about TrollTech and their dual license. The GNOME platform is far more free as beer and freedom goes. KDE is restricted to either GPL applications or TrollTech licensed applications, and quite honestly, I see no reason to give TrollTech that type of control over the platform I would chose to work on...
Fortunately, I don't even like the KDE desktop and platform in the first place, so this is a win-win in my case.:)
I don't see a future for her in Slashdot.... Remember, the specialty is making up quotes. That's a creative endeavor that usually involves research. Contrast to Slashdot editors, who are notorious for not remembering stories posted days or even hours ago.
It's obvious that this is well beyond the phase where talking to whatever holding company that controls the publication would have an effect. Rather, this is just a step below slander... It's a strong word, and this is the same effect, just that in this case there is more than enough evidence against the party that they are really trying to get thrown out, and the holding company probably saw no reason to take action (ethics? HA!) until there was the possibilty that advertising clients would take notice to bad stuff going on over there.
1) There's no such thing as the "Linux OS"... There's the Linux kernel, where many developers arte full-time employees of large corporations.
2) Outside of the Linux kernel, there's a ton of people who work in software but spend their hobby time working on software that is important or popular but NOT something that a large corporation would hire employees to build. Ok?

"it'll be a person who must've said at one time or another that the justice system is bogus and we could do without it."
:)
Assuming we are talking about the courts in their current state... AWESOME! It's about time we had someone grounded in reality.

Dear Zonk,
Please, dear... It's "Cracking", not "Hacking"
Also, since when is passing the administrator's password around considered [Hacking|Cracking] anyway?
Technically, that wasn't Rush Limbaugh, but guest host Roget Hedgecock.
I'm amazed at how well people like Roger, G. Gordon Liddy, Oliver North, and Mark Fuhrman do after getting a ton of press under bad circumstances.
"The elections may have represented progress; the violence does not."
Oh. Yeah. Show me where in history cases where violence idicates the failure of progress.
When you combine a pathetic editorial with a wiki, you get a pathetic wiki.
History says that file is only 2 days old.
Haggar, your sig makes your post all the more funny. :)
Nah, it's just more proof that even /. editors don't read the articles.
And people wonder why there are so many reposts....
I agree... If the univeristy cared so much about what recording industry thinks, it should be worth it to the university to get raked over the coals with a wrongful termination lawsuit.
"Gameplay advances will come from peripherals and Sony really showed that off with their kooky EyeToy games."
We know this because NES ROB and Zapper were so darn successful at shaping gameplay for the next 20 years after their introduction.
Yes, that's sarcasim. Perhaps gameplay advances will come from a new theme once in a while. I don't wanna be a space marine any more.

"I wonder who is "irrational" here?" ....
:)
"Do as I say! Not as I do!". Just how hypocritical can people be?
Hypocrite? Geez... of all the words to pick.
Either you are stupid or forgetful. I don't care which.
If you want to charge for your QT-based software, you have to pay for a QT license. If you want to release free QT software you don't have to pay for anything. Sounds totally fair to me... you want something for nothing?
Yes... In fact, I can get that with Gtk+.

Because the grandparent asked for my point of view, and because there's way too many irrational KDE cheerleaders on Slashdot that take every oppritunity to protect their platform and Trolltech.
"Well, thanks for your insight!"
You're welcome.
You mentioned the games on GNOME, something I know a little about... ;)
:)
My problem with the Qt toolkit is about TrollTech and their dual license. The GNOME platform is far more free as beer and freedom goes. The real question is: Does it run Doom 3?
:)
Ah, but even the Voodoo 2 runs Doom 3... I don't see why the PSP wouldn't be able to.

Ingenious... too bad that...

Take your opinion and shove it, Mr. Journalist.
