I really don't think that our society could function without substances that cause cancer. Furthermore, would it really be realistically (and financially) possible to investigate EVERYTHING to determine whether or not it causes cancer?
"Organic" foods are generally more expensive, and the concept of "organic" doesn't translate into electronic things. Our bodies were made to handle the the natural environment. It should come as no surprise that the large quantity of artificial products that we use have adverse effects on our biological systems.
