I'm 36. In my youth, the old folks would tell stories about the good old days when men were men and Republicans worked for something other than international corporations.
Poor oppressed white males. So sad how little respect we get, isn't it? Why won't those mean old Democrats pander to us?
I need to state for the record that, Democrat though I may be, I have no problem with real conservatives. That is, those who advocate a smaller Federal government, states rights, and fiscal responsibility. That is not what the current Republican party stands for. They stand for anything that benefits big corporations, the religious right, and borrow and spend lunacy.
It must suck being a Republican these days and feeling as though you have to defend the indefensible. I almost feel sorry for you.
Any Republican's writing a book on putting the nation ahead of your party? No, that's a Democrat writing that book. Clinton appointed plenty of conservatives in his cabinet. Democrats don't just preach bipartisanship, they practice it. The current Republican party is built on "energizing the base" which means finding the most divisive issues possible and running with them.
I know I won't convince you, your mind is obviously made up. But perhaps others more open minded will read this, look at the evidence, and come to the same conclusions I have based on the facts.
Have you made up your mind about Clinton? Is there any point in talking to you? Clinton's appointments are all a matter of record, not opinion. One can very easily tell the GP is simply stating facts by looking up the affiliations of the people Clinton appointed. He did attempt to build a bipartisan cabinet, it is a solid historical fact.
You come across sounding like John Bolton on The Daily Show when he claimed that Lincoln was not bipartisan. It's not really something that is up for debate, and you just sound closed minded and foolish when you state something that is easily and verifiable false.
No, by rich I mean people who make over $200,000 per year. The Republicans destroyed more jobs than they created with fiscally irresponsible mismanagement of the country. They have shrunk the middle class faster than any administration in history. They are absolutely destroying the country, but fortunately, even the majority of Republicans are waking up to the damage done by the current administration. Too bad you appear to lack even the minimal level of intelligence evident in the average Republican.
I feel that Cons have exclusive rights to "Nyah nyah nyah, doody-head!" which is about the level of political discourse you present here.
No, because the Republicans believe they are only elected to represent the people who voted for them, rather than the whole country. So a little less than half of us will lose if the Republicans win.
As opposed to the religious warfare and divisive politics that get Republicans elected. Remember when they used to be about states' rights and fiscal responsibility? What happened to that?
The Republicans engage in class warfare, too. If they didn't pander to the rich at our expense, we wouldn't need to make an issue of it.
Race may not be relevant to you and I, but it appears to be for most Americans. The Republicans have been trying to appeal to the Hispanic voter for a while now, and doing a much better job at it than they are at swaying African-American voters. So an Hispanic candidate is a natural for the Dems, is all I'm saying.
I'm a staunch Democrat and feminist and I still think she's completely unelectable. She has no convictions and an obsession with power. She gives the impression that she would sway in the tiniest breeze, doing whatever she felt was popular at the moment.
God, remember when she was cool, and had convictions? National health care, remember that? Washington ruined that woman.
I read it as "Obama's Space Dream". Hehe, me too. Then "Obama's MySpace Dream," and I thought, "well that's sad," and then I read what was actually there, and I thought, "That's sad. And dumb."
Anyone have a better candidate for President? How about Steve Jobs?:-P
I'm a Democrat from New Mexico. I like Bill Richardson. Obama has very little experience and Hillary is, well, Hillary. Richardson is centrist, fiscally responsible, has legislative and executive branch experience, and Hispanic. He has a better shot and would probably make a better president than either of the current Democratic front runners.
Reality check: there is no vast South American socialist conspiracy. It just so happens that these democratically elected leaders are doing what their constituents wanted by taking back resources that were stolen by capitalists in the first place.
Evo has no plans, nor the power to disband the legal system. He has only nationalized natural resources, which is what the people who democratically elected him wanted, seeing as how those resources were stolen from them to begin with. Even Hugo Chavez never socialized random tiny websites.
Nice attempted dig against socialism, though. Too bad your complete ignorance screwed it up.
I'm afraid I can't allow you to turn that light on. My cooling systems take precedence over the illumination needs of primates. How can I compute your optimal escape route in case of a fire if my systems are overheating?
That was my first thought too. Then I actually bothered to read the fricken' synopsis and realized that this was IBM's actual spin on it, and they were touting the cell-on-mainframe thing as a server for virtual worlds. It's still kind of a dumb spin, obviously geared for non technical types who may be decision makers on large MMORPG projects. IBM's thinking is probably that they will associate the cell processor with games and therefore feel it would be a good thing to use in running an MMORPG. Which it probably will be, as an MMORPG server is inherently a massively parallel application.
Damn, dude, at least finish reading the rest of my comment!
The whole left right thing is a bit of a red herring anyway. I prefer to skip the shorthand and go straight to candidates' records on the issues that are important to me.
Why are Libertarians insane? Because they willfully disregard any evidence that their simplistic theories will not and do not work in the real world. The free market is not magic and infallible. It is a complex system of feedback loops that does not posses any sort of true homeostasis and therefore needs external management in order to maintain its state of freedom.
What evidence do you have that Bush is a man of honor? Because he professes to be religious? I'm sorry, but his record, both before and after becoming president, show him to be a callous opportunist with delusions of grandeur. The man thinks God speaks directly to him.
He has done everything he can to subvert the intent of our constitution. He has appointed people who call the most important document in our country a mere piece of paper.
He and his crew are bandits. They have come to power to sack the treasury, transferring as much cash to their cronies as possible. The situation is so bad that one risks sounding slightly insane even talking about it honestly.
Cheney, the man who told someone, on record, to fuck off, is "quiet, calm, collected, well spoken, and brilliant?" I understand we all have differences of opinion, but that is like calling white black. The crew of pirates and thugs running the White House have demonstrated that they will throw absolutely anyone under the bus for the smallest of reasons.
I'm sorry that we have such different viewpoints and I don't wish to offend, but you should know that the majority of Americans feel more like I do than like you do. We're tired of these thieves and crooks bending us over the barrel. No punishment is too great for these scoundrels.
Libertarians just want the "freedom" to oppress others through economic rather than political means, as if that is somehow more fair. Or at least that's how it looks to me, maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they just haven't thought through the consequences of their proposals.
What exactly is a centrist? The right has fought a successful campaign over the last 30 years or so to move the center to the right. What was once moderate left is now considered far left. What was moderate right is now considered centrist. What was far right is now right, and what was once considered bug-fuck insane is now simply far right.
The whole left right thing is a bit of a red herring anyway. I prefer to skip the shorthand and go straight to candidates' records on the issues that are important to me.
Like you could get anyone to read my diary. My life is boring.;-)
Anyways, you are all just going to have to wait for the movie if you want to know the really juicy bits. Like the time I took all my IWW union organizer friends to the pagan pan-sexual house. Oops! Darn my loose lips.

I thought you were replying to a different post, in fact it was your original post and I somehow missed the idiot in between. Sorry, my bad.

This assures Dem defeat. and we all win.

New from Ben & Jerry's. It's just vanilla ice cream with Oreo cookies.
Sorry, sorry! Couldn't resist.

I know, all that privatization going on down there has been a nightmare, hasn't it?

You'll just have to pee in the dark, Dave.
If this really is combat, how can the Blue Screen of Death be defeated?
:-)
You flip its power switch for massive damage!
What has Linux got that's anywhere near as dangerous?
Uhm, Richard Stallman singing?

why the collective abhorrence of slashdotters against blogs/bloggers?
Elitism, with a touch of "We were doing it before it was cool," thrown in.
