  1. Simple Arithmetic on Making Science and Math Kid Friendly? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I found most students who do poorly in higher math don't even know their multiplication tables.

  2. Re:About that RIAA link... on Recording Artists File Brief Against RIAA · · Score: 1

Do the major-label guys have a serious lack of taste, or what?

Agreed. Many of the popular artists out there(and I don't mean Britany Spears or N'Sync) have some very good music, but the record labels seem to pick the ones that the Suits think might be popular. So what are we stuck with? Chop Suey played over and over again when there is actaully some decent music by System of a Down out there. Allthough I'm not a fan of System of a Down, there are some songs I like.

And hell, there are several bands that one way or another I found mp3s of a couple songs and because I liked them so much, I actually went out and bought the CD.

  3. Sounds like Ender's Game to me on The Rise Of The 15-Year-Olds · · Score: 1

this whole thing sounds exactly like what Peter and Valentine did in Ender's Game. next thing you know, some punk kid'll turn out to be ruler of the world, simply by influencing so many people on the net. it's happening.

i wholeheartedly agree. i proudly wear the DeCSS shirt and i don't care what anyone thinks. and on the topic of making bombs, i don't think that's all too funny. i got in big trouble in my freshman year of high school for dabbling with that stuff. allthough it did get me a lot of "respect" among my peers.

  6. Re:Slashdot sucks on Sony Cigar-Sized MP3 Player · · Score: 1

people have lives you know. they don't have time to sit around all day long and check on the latest bits of news. i may admitt that it's a bit old, but they're doing YOU a service. if you don't like it, don't read.

  7. Re:USB support? on Linux Kernel 2.3.41 · · Score: 1

USB is useful most times, but at others it loves to lock up my system while in windows when I have my combo USB-PS/2 keyboard and USB webcam plugged in at the same time. I'd love to see how it would hold up in Linux. It certainly does eliminate a lot of different connectors and cables and such.

  8. the Ender Series on Sci Fi Literature 101? · · Score: 1

for good Sci-Fi, i highly recommend the Ender series by Orson Scott Card. Start with Ender's Game, then Ender's Shadow (a parallel novel to the first one), then Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and last Children of the mind. besides that, i find all books by Card to be excellent

  9. Re:Not Starcraft on Forum: Future Ports of Games to Linux · · Score: 1

well, i'll tell you why it should be ported to linux: WinE runs slow (very slow). how can one play a RTS when you can barely keep track of the cursor?
