"And all I can say is that it's about time someone put pressure on the home & enterprise networking hardware companies. What a stagnant squabbling market that has become."
If they do get into network tech, I seriously hope they release some home routers. I'm probably not the only one tired of having to reboot home routers every so often, especially with multiple people connected and having their wireless connection suddenly drop.
the problem is the os, they run those crappy XML based web apps and it fills up the ram, oterhwise you can also just use a regular machine for your router.
its if those bits that come out have a truely random distrobution which being unpredictible. The outputs of hash functions are weakened from theoretical (perfect) (apparent) entropy by a need to do things fast. Distrobutions are not perfectly distrobuted and randomness is removed through the passes.
But both of these things can be completely solved with even crappy systems simply by using larger keys. The most import thing is a (CPU+RAM/bit of entropy). If want something secure do a triple blowfish-whirlpool-AES or ust double AES, or do a SHA-512 instead of a SHA-1. Then only huge problems in the mathimatics can hamper it
um thats basically the point that the PC ads try to make, they say that PC users are from all walk of live and pushes a humanist tone. (not that i buy that, but its better than Mac ='s "Im better than you, in your face" attitude)
Yes this humanist tone is Ubuntu's primary face, but it is not Red Hat's or Novell's; and while Debian is extremely universal and free it focuses on practicalities rather than any fuzzy undefinable feeling. I think this awareness of reality, and ability to adapt is linux's and generally GPL'd/FOSS'd softwares great asset. Linux is not focused on Egos or Peons; linux is focused on applications (in the broader sense), and if it doesn't do what you want it to do you can adapt it of embedded that parts that are useful into your system.
Programmers and efficiency are not unrelated free market resources. Good coders write more efficient code regardless of weather thet is a primary goal. While premature optimization is athe root of all evil, claiming there is no need to optimize at all is equally a fallacy.
they alsa refuse to include the tracking number when they notify you that they have that information wafter you buy something through google checkout. They FORCE you to track it through THEIR page, and you must log in. The shippers tracking systems are already designed to be secure, when you track a package there is no personal information displayed. But Google FORCES you use use their site.
Their like an overcontrolling parent.
Google is always right. Just go to Google and Google will have the answer. Google knows everything. You cant live without the Google. All your allowance comes from Google. Don't make Google ground you and demote your search ranking. GOOGLE GOOGLE AHHH PLEASE GOD MAKE IT JUST A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!
If we had kept even moderately higher oil price levels after the scare of 73' then we would have a way less dependence on all the middle eastern oil. When the price went down after that it just killed the efficiency and alternate fuels industry that had sprung up, all the ideas(patents) to be bought out by oil companies. Now it could happen again, and in 20 years well wonder why we didn't ever do anything about our dependence on foreign oil.
We blame this crisis fully on the mograge market but some blame is surely to put on the oil prices, and now as they go back down we'll forget. Just like you would be crazy to have a nation import all its food, its stupid to import most of your energy, an equally important resource. There is a reason Japan has such high tariffs on food, and there is a reason we need to subsidize ways to make our economy less reliant and more self-sufficient.
These waves of volatility in energy are very bad for ventur capitilism into energy fixes but that does not meen they are bad ideas. Toyota makde great strides by continuing to invest in efficiency well afer the 70's scare and it worked. Governments need to realize this and help new companies that are not Toyota.
I do not like Novell however this is just absolutely untrue. If Novell looses the ability to distribute GPL softwares then only they loose that right, and parties that they distributed, as long as those parties are comply with the license, keep their license. Read the text of the GPL if you doubt me.
However be weary of changes as in any distrobution. Make sure that you know the licenses of the content you consume and what that means. If this leads to Microsoft turning open-source (HAHAHAHA, oh i got a good laugh there) thats good, otherwise its probably going to be Novell that will push toward propritary solutions. Otherwise this deal will lapse and hopefully nothing comes of it, that would help show that Microsoft FUD is loosing weight.
most slowness that is directly noticible was nautilus is a hob install pcmanfm and there is a online method to fully switch and then you can browse files way faster
what realy needs to happen (but wont because finially your grandmother has gotten sue to password) is a move towards real authentication
Peoples cryptographics keys do not need to have any information but if people just used the damn things then there would be no phishing, no more hackers hacking into some crap site, or the site going off the internet and saying what the hell, and your passwords being used to take everything you have.
big sites like reportable ebay DO NOT ENCRYPT YOUR PASSWORDS cause they then cn look for sockpupets.
Seriously, if the user types their password into the actual page then something is wrong, unlike 10 years ago anyone can easily send a typed password thorugh ajax, anything you ever type into any text box on a internet site is public. Something like passwords shouldnt be in there as there and done ad-hoc. And this is part of most of what this game plays on.
My spelling has nothing to do with schooling. I got great grades in school (2250/1570 SAT, etc) and was largely unchallenged but i was never good at spelling, just something i never liked, mainly because i don't memorize things. When i took German the spelling was easy. (although confusing English spelling) English spelling has no order and therefore i have never really liked to fallow it, i can spell if i want, and it was certainly jammed down my throat, but English spelling is certainly a waste of brain cycles and memory, and by corrupting the characters by having no rules, and having our names for our letter have no correlation to their sounds---and having vowels even spoken as diphthongs i.e. a= ae, e= ei, i= ai it just makes the characters meaningless. No other western language does this as much as English.
Anyways that isn't much of an excuse but don't blame it on the education system, its not their fault.
what most people fail to see is most our economical situalion is not dictated by the amount of spending but the quality of spending.
The government has an infinite money bucket, we all know that, but if they dip into it we get massive inflation and we start looking like germany before WW2. We also cant just stop spending or we will end up in anarchy and roads wont work etc...
The thing is is that the more each doller creates, if every doller actually leads to someone doing something, then no matter how much the government spends it will always work. B/f WW2 in germany the government refused to stop paying people who went on strike, and therefore these people could consume without producing. Now getting rid of social programs does not neccicarily make people do more. If the social programs are providing services to people, and by being healthy people are able to work, then you did good. If the road dont work and people cant get from place to place, then the economy halts as trade cant take place. The importand thing is that all economic transactions should encourage production.
This is largely summed in says law: (from wikipedia)
recession does not occur because of failure in demand or lack of money. The more goods (for which there is demand) that are produced, the more those goods (supply) can constitute a demand for other goods. For this reason, prosperity should be increased by stimulating production, not consumption. In Say's view, creation of more money simply results in inflation; more money demanding the same quantity of goods does not represent an increase in real demand.
If the money given out to help the economy actually creates work then it helps the economy, but if it does not create work it will destroy it. Most public works projects are very good at this, especially if they can break out of the union-like mindset of the public sector. A war does it too but only if the war is of the type of WW2 where people actually care, people work more, and they dont have to be bribed or tricked into doing things, and corruption/war-profiteering is low. (like what is happening with contractore, etc in Iraq) The first (public projects) leads to surpluses down the road and a stronger overall economy, war leads to the opposite. (unless you would be conquered otherwise)
Public projects that involve a new US labor force should go foward, and be the best thing the government can do. They must also stop sending on things that dont produce anything, (like the Iraq war) and clean up SS medicaid medicare, doing more with the same funds. It leads to a more efficient, cheaper medical system that does more for less. If the government isnt spending on on medicine than people are spending, and private insurance is more costly for less than public for the same thing.
agreed computers are importand, but its not like the schools have any idea on how to use them.
The networks are so tied down that you cant do anything. Schools should allow each student to have a VM and have root access, and secure the net so that they cant do enormous harm, then the students can hack etc, and i guess the schools can still put in content filtering through firewalls, etc.
The only way to actually learn anything about computer in todays schools besides "learning word" (the type of stuff which students already know but teachers really don't) is to hack them, and schools don't like that--it should be the other way, hacking should be encouraged, and any really important stuff should be segregated + quality backups, and imaging ready for when the smart kid figures something out.
its javascript so the end code is probably cross-platform, weather the delivery takes place on multiple platforms i do not know but largely depends on the delivery mechanism, as a xpi it would probably be fully cross-platform.
mozila vs firefox, who friggen knows

copyright applies to the work, not the format. they has been clear even since quality printing was invented and rights to a painting were extended to its printing representation. The way in which the copyrighted work is conveyed is irreverent, except for that on must have rights to copy it into any source. (these rights may be granted by fair use) If you have a right to the first copy, AND fair use allows you to make a copy, it doesn't matter what format the copy is in.
There are only two ways to deny this, wither you rule that fair use does not apply, or you rule that copyright does not fallow formats. Not allowing fair use would be an unthinkable thing, and disallowing copyrights to extend beyond formats in unthinkable. The thing is that content creators want both sides of that coin.
Either we rule that content is integral to format which would mean that no copyrighted content could be moved to new formats until it lapsed into the public domain, or you rule that format is unrelated to content, and therefore fair use applies to all formats now and in the future.
What this ultimately comes down to is that the content owners (not necessarily the creators) believe that Fair-use is a scam and wish to wipe it out whatever it takes, however they will not admit that. This is mainly because it lifts the fog of bullshit that the keep laying.

yeah not condoes, but it can be done like the sane way water and sewer is done, and those thing are not outrageously expensive in any way. this is not a thing that will take maintainence. fiber should just be required to be laid with new construction like phone, water, sewer, and power, is reuired today. A large community that has cables laid can compete well, and except for wire-breakages the upkeep, ie main routers, are upkept by the connecting company.
Once fiber is laid the price of connectivity will drop substansially, and will only reflect the cost of connection, not any of this bullshit monopoly premium. We can do this eaither by laying 2-3 sets of wires which probably wont happen, or we can do this by laying one set of wires that is owned by communities, and only sell the real big stuff, and router troubles to the stuff that is allready compeditive.

well i know that at least in email they use the 10.0.0.0/8 grouping. I think those rumors are a load of bullshit.
