I didn't see anything about a single virus being limited in how much water it could split (TFS says that over time they lost their effectiveness, but that that was fixed), so that just means it would take a lot longer. If some of the viruses did get out, unless we managed to get them all back, that one little Wall-E that we missed would dutifully continue on splitting water until there was nothing left. ;)

(Note, the above post is not to be taken seriously.)

So I really don't see the benefit of upping the protection like that.

Actually... the padlock is probably less secure than the power on password, as it's probably much more easily picked and put back on without the father ever realizing it (as long as the father does not pick an easily guessed password).

I've not heard a clear take on exactly what went down, but taking GP's post at face value, it looks as if this is what he is saying happened:

    1) People ask J.K. Rowling for permission to write a lexicon.
    2) J.K. Rowling grants permission, thinking it won't be very profitable.
    3) A lot of hard work and money are put into this unofficial lexicon.
    4) J.K. Rowling sees how profitable a lexicon could be.
    5) J.K. Rowling rescinds permission given to write the unofficial lexicon.
    6) The people writing the other lexicon are now out a lot of money.

Are you really saying that most people do not have a problem with being taken advantage of like this? Or is this not actually how it went down?

But if you're not allowed to do much, how can you be sure you're actually getting the high speeds you're paying for? It'd be like being given a Lamborgotti Fasterossa, but only being allowed to drive it between your place and your neighbor 20 feet away.

There are other things though. Not taking your child to Disney World won't garner the wrath of CPS. Feeding your child nothing but spinach and other leafy greens with just enough of other foods to fulfill proper dietary requirements will not have them knocking down your door. Not giving them that Wii for their birthday won't have them giving you nasty telephone calls. There are plenty of other things, but I find it hard to believe eviction is one of them.

GP isn't saying you cannot make it up a hill.

Consider it like this. You see a hill coming up. In a manual, you can judge for yourself if you think you should downshift for additional torque to maintain your speed. In an automatic, the computer cannot know how steep the hill you are about to climb is, or even that there is a hill coming up. So when you reach the hill, you're either decelerating or accelerating more slowly.

While I do not know the exact years, all the automatics I've driven have been 2000+ models, and in such situations would not downshift unless I floored it, at which point I get way more torque than I needed.
