So then I take it you would find it acceptable if a state introduced the ability for anyone to get a drivers license simply by owning a car for XX years, but then stripped men of the ability to get a drivers license by any other means? I mean, why would anyone possibly find that unacceptable? You'd still be able to get the same license as a women, it'd just take a little longer.
your observer while you're under permit can't just be a legal adult: they have to be 21 (age discrimination) and have been a licensed driver for at least three years (understandable).
I'm not sure that counts as age discrimination. Assuming a minor does everything as soon as they are legally able to, do they keep the same license from 17 to 18, or is their license "upgraded" to a higher level at that point? In Maryland, as I understand it, we have the same thing regarding the permit observer. But 21 is also the youngest you can possibly be before having had the required license for 3 years. So it's really just re-iterating the minimum of 3 years experience thing.
I'd just as soon not have the government recognize marriage at all, or convey any benefits to anybody based on their state of being married.
Depends on what those benefits are. I would be ok without the tax benefits. But I kind of like the benefit of knowing that if I or my spouse are ever in the hospital, that that hospital will not be permitted to say "no, we do not recognize you as immediate family, you are not permitted to visit".
what is there to stop advocates of other taboo-unions from petitioning for the same opportunity, such as unions of incest or bestiality?
Last time I checked, my cats could not give informed consent. So that takes care of bestiality.
Regarding incest.. incest with a minor has the same lack of informed consent thing going for it, but between two adults... as long as there is informed consent, I have a hard time justifying its ban, despite the whole genetic bottleneck thing.
No, please protest them. Were it not for this thread, I would have been unaware of his wife having had cancer, and of his child being autistic. Puts a new light on the infrequency of updates that predate his recent heart problems, surgery, and subsequent recovery.
While that is true, the infrequency of updates has been going on for far longer than during his recent heart problems, surgery, and subsequent recovery. So I think it a fair criticism.
That said, TheSHAD0W does also bring up a couple other reasons that I was unaware of.
If they get a warrant/subpoena with the "Thou shalt tell no other" stamp on it, they can't tell anybody about it, in particular, they can't tell the subject/victim of it.
I thought the point was "but if you encrypt it, you will know about it". Not because Amazon will violate the "tell no one" order, but because if the government actually wants to know what the encrypted data is, they will have no choice but to try going through you, since Amazon won't be able to turn over that piece of information.
The fact that they are doing so under the color of law really doesn't change the situation.
It does if you want to rectify the situation. It changes who you go after.
The question of whether or not they are a non-practicing-entity is really a red herring.
If you are arguing that such patents should have never been granted in the first place, then I agree. But I thought this was about TiVo being "nothing more than a Patent Holder". In which case, whether or not they are an NPE is key.
does "patent holder" = "patent troll" now in common parlance?
I think it's more the way TFS said it, "nothing more than a Patent Holder". It implies that TiVo is not actually making anything which uses the patent. And for me at least, when I think of a company that holds patents but does not make anything which uses those patents, I think patent troll.
To me, that's an obvious idea and should not be patentable.
Two things.
1) That isn't the message that "TiVo today is nothing more than a Patent Holder" sends.
2) While a fair argument, you should be going after the government for enabling such patentability in the first place, not TiVo for holding the patent (and actually making a product that uses it, unlike actual patent trolls).
But if you only reveal that fact if the cops bust in, wouldn't the escort then be able to go after you for attempting to film you and her having sex? I guess it's a possibility she won't, since she'd basically be admitting that she's a prostitute. But if the cops bust in, she's likely already in with them in some manner.
So then you just need to find a friend to trade roles with. One night your friend pays you and the hooker, the next, you pay your friend and the hooker.
But we aren't talking about a mere lack of sympathy, which may be because you don't know if you should sympathize. We're talking about looking at the situation, and deciding that you have no sympathy for the person, for the things that are about to befall him.
Person 1: "You gotta help me out man!"
Person 2: "Why?"
Person 1: "I robbed a liquor store! The Man is gonna throw me in jail!"
Person 2: "I have no sympathy for you."
If you cannot see how that means that Person 2 approves of Person 1 going to jail, then I don't know what else to say.
My point was that him saying "I'm struggling to find sympathy for him" goes beyond merely understanding the events. It expresses a particular feeling you have about the events.
For example, I understand that some people beat up other people. But if I see a guy getting the shit kicked out of him on TV, and I say "I have no sympathy for that guy", how is that not me condoning the beating?
I didn't mean to imply that I wasn't updating, only that I could not play the new game I just bought until I did.
Or rather, in theory I could not play it. In practice, I just used one of the many disc managers to install the game to an external HDD, and played the game from that. Completely skips the version check on the disc.
Of course, just in case the game actually did need something in the update, I did still update.
So I was just imagining things every time my PSP refused to play a UMD because the UMD contained a software update? And every time my Wii wouldn't load a game because of a software update on the game disc?
Sorry, but I think you're the one out of touch with reality.
Car analogy time!

Depends on the "brand" of bottled water.
If you had not said anything, it could've been passed off as an accent. You know, "It'sa me, Mario!".
And I agree, TwoKinds rocks.
But I wouldn't bother protesting these opinions

You'll need only one for a Tivo with 6 tuners.
And if the Series 5 is anything like the Series 4, the TiVo will only accept a single card.
To me, that's an obvious idea and should not be patentable.

Wouldn't it be easier for the government to just "politely" ask the cell tower operator to turn off the tower?

Was that in T3? I remember that from MiB2, but not T3.

I'm struggling to find sympathy for him personally, as he has committed an extremely serious act of treason.
Saying he has no sympathy doesn't sound much like he's simply stating what will happen. Makes it sound like he approves.
I'm struggling to find sympathy for him personally, as he has committed an extremely serious act of treason.
I'm struggling to read that as anything but you supporting his assassination.
I couldn't move my car because there were people in front and behind me.
She was coming at me perpendicularly, looking down at her phone just plowing forward, driving THROUGH the parking spaces like they weren't even there.
Makes me wonder how many pedestrians she nearly clipped...
Maybe, but that's fine. Because when the government does it, it isn't illegal.
I didn't mean to imply that I wasn't updating, only that I could not play the new game I just bought until I did.
