  1. Only difference is... on Switching to Contracting? · · Score: 1

The only difference between and employee and a contractor is that the contractor usually knows their termination date, for the employe it is a surprise. Take the risk now and never think that your are anything other than a contractor, even when you are a direct W-2. Good luck.

  2. #2 post got it right on WiFi Free-For-All · · Score: 1

The second posting to this article nailed with the realization that the WiFi is paid for by the drinks and food consumed by hanging in the location longer. Airports and other public locations want you to come early and stay late to buy more from the retailers at the space. It's the retailers that will pay for the service to give it away for free.

TANSTAAFL= There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. And there ain't no free WiFi. Would you like another cup, or pint, or sandwich?

  3. I quit. on Best Way To Beat A Caffeine Addiction? · · Score: 1

I quit when I decided to not drink coffee on a trip back from France. By the time I got from Paris to Seattle, I was sick and stayed that way for several days. I didn't grok what was the cause until I walked by a coffee shop and felt nauseous and strongly attracted at the same time. I switched to green tea for the next couple of years. It's been 7 or so years now and I can safely drink coffee again, in moderation. The headaches pass and your favorite hangover cure (aspirin, ibuprofen, tylenol) will help the felling pass. Just tough it out and stay away for at elast 6 months. Good luck, there is no magic cure!

  4. What's the wire for? on Will Cellular Phones Skew Survey Results? · · Score: 1

18 months ago I moved from WA to PA and now am moving to TX. At that time, I got high speed cable and had no need for wireline telephony. We have two cell phones (me and my wife) and a plan that is optimized for us calling each other and our long distance friends. This saved us at least $100 in phone costs and increased our convenience even more.

As for demographics, we are not in the 18-24 demo, nor are the great number of my coworkers and friends who are doing the same thing. It doesn't take genius to realize the most effective don't call list is the cellular NPA-NXX listing!

  5. Useful link for supplies on The Wireless Networking Question Roundup... · · Score: 4, Informative

Here is a link to acompany that proved useful that last time I was installing wireless LAN's.
http://www.hyperlinktech.com/index.html. They have a full assortment including heated outdoor enclosures and antennas and amplifiers and AP's and more!

  6. Vote with a return against Intuit on Slashback: Intuit, Telemetry, Meetup · · Score: 1

I was annoyed enough about Intuit's protection scheme and had prevaricated long enough still to have an unopened package. I took it back to Costco who happily gave me back my money and then went and saved $20 buying Tax Cut! Felt good and saved money, how much better can it get!! :=)

  7. Toilet bowls? on Lotus Nanotech · · Score: 1

Hasn't anyone rad "The Mote In God's Eye" by Pournelle? Didn't the moties 'fix" the toilets with effect thus reducing the need for water to flush. Self flushing toilet bowls? Now that is beneficial!!
