    Well Im playing the MMORGs Eternal Lands which has clients for Linux, Mac and Windows.

    It's free to play but you can support the game by buying items in the EL shop. So yes it exists MMORGs for Linux.

    Actually its not in the publishers best interest to make the music available in many forms.

    The publisher wants to maximize the profit and sadly this is done by selling the music as expensive as they can and mostly sell the music where they get most of the profit. Thats why most music aint sold as DRM-free mp3.

    The approval is just a formality. All countries are forced to approve this extension to 70 years or will be dragged into court and found guilty.

    The big problem for the Pirate bay is that the name and the way they have been responding to people asking for torrents being taken down has shown that the people behind it has encourages the users on Pirate bay to do copyright infringements and thus they lost the case.

    Had they in word only pretended to protect copyrightholders rights they would probably have been found not guilty.

    Its the implied intent to help the copyright infringers that got to them found guilty according to the verdict.

    Those that sell knifes don't in any way directly or indirectly imply that people use them for murders and are thus therefor not held accountable for what their weapon is used for even if they knew that some of the uses for the weapon is as a murder weapons.

    Many here ae developers/users of free software and as such we don't cry if propriatory software are going down the drains. Rather the opposite. killing propriatory software would be a huge job opportunity for many on this site.

    It's a very small minority of the IT industry that works in creating and selling propriatory software - less then 10% - so for most in the IT business no more pripriatory software won't affect their work at all.

    They have 30 days to appeal to higher court(Hovrätten). The chance of the appeal being denied here is pretty low in this case AFAIK.
    If the appeal is successful they have to wait for their day in court and the verdict there.
    Verdicts where the lower courts verdict is confirmed aren't appealed.

    Then that can be appealed to the highest court(Högsta domstolen). The chance of the appeal being denied here is pretty high in general but depends on how important the case is and how much new evidience are in play.

    If the appeal is successful they have to wait until their day in court and the verdict there.

    Then its over. It can take years from now if it goes all the way. But if it just go to the next instance this case is over in 2010.

    Actually they were found guilty of helping to commit copyright infringement and not infringement per se.

    Its not a fine but a restoration of damages. All the money will go to the companies owning the rights to the files that was part of the court case. They had asked for 110 MSEK but got about 30MSEK or about 3.5MUSD.

    The solution for the problem is very simple, if you don't to release your software as GPL code - don't use GPL code as a base for your software.

    Thus if you don't want to write GPL code, don't write a plugin to GCC. Instead write some other software that has nothing to do with GCC.

    If you want to write software and base it on GPL code, the least you can do is to return the favor and also release your own code as GPL code.

    The GNU project is based on the old tradition that if you are nice to others so will hopefully they be nice to you too.

    But greener is cheaper - because then you don't have to pay that $10 000 hospital bill you get when you get sick from pollution.

    The cost of pollution is higher then the cost of lowering the pollution in the first place.

    So you pay either way.

    Actually Microsoft is down in overall usage. Used to be near 95 % not long ago and by the end of this year it looks like Microsoft will be down under 90%.

    Of course the biggest winner is Apple and its Mac. However percentage wise the biggest winner is Linux.

    The numbers are Microsoft about 90+ Apple 7+ and Linux 1. (the rest is various smaller operating systems like Solaris HP-UX and mobile devices)

    Given that Microsoft won't come out with a new operating system until something like early 2010 it will mean that the alternatives should be able to actually double their part of the overall market and move Microsoft down to 80-85 % of the overall market.

    A power cable.

    The raft wont be floating freely, it will be anchored to a specific spot where the conditions for wind is good. However its much cheaper to use than construction something from the sea bottom in deep water. Most sea wind power are close to shore wind power plants that is build where the water is shallow or on islands. With this techonolgy a wind farm can be set up in deep water where the wind conditions are good.

    Microsoft has already said they will only implement ODF 1.1 when at the same time all competitors will produce ODF 1.2 documents.

    Thus Microsoft will not be able to read many ODF dokuments produced because of imcompatibilities.

    Its Microsoft making a imcompatible version of Java all over again to stop Java from being adopted. Now they are doing it to stop ODF from being adopted.

    No, Columbus was sent by the king and queen of Spain and the Pope acknowledged that all land there was the property of Spain.

    Columbus never went to NORTH america - he mostly visited Bahmas and Cuba and some of the other island there and some part of south america.

    Its more like if you get 6 barrels of oil from the ground you get 5 barrels of gas. But if you grow equivalent of 6 barrels of oil as corn you get 1 barrel of gas. The rest in both cases is lost in the process of making the gas.

    Growing corn is a very bad way of getting petrol since the fertilizer is costly to produce in form of energy.

    There are better plants to use to get petrol - Brazil uses sugar canes. USA associate sugare canes with Cuba and has been preferring corn before the more energy efficient sugar canes.

    Actually its not court fines. It's illegal gains. It's the money 'earned' by selling ads on Pirate Bay.

    Like a bank robber are not allowed to keep the money he robs from the bank, the people behind Pirate Bay arent allowed to keep money gotten while doing something illegal.

    The sum is the total of all invoices for ads on Pirate Bay which was found as part of the raid of Pirate bay offices.

    The reason - they don't have any documents describing the formats.

    Code are descriptions of formats.

    When Microsoft was forced to disclose information about the SMB format to EU anti-trust department they tried to give them the source code - complaining that it cost them too much to describe the format.

    So they are sadly asking for something that dont exists.

    With a fish they get food for a week. If we learn them to fish they can catch fish themselves and get food for a lifetime.

    Education is the best way to get people out of poverty.
