    I seen sites using these "name conventions" in .uk and .au so there are probably even more... The cuestion is who registered com.Country_Code?.. :) .. In some countries it's squatters in others it's probably state regulated.

    <RANT>
    One stupid rule that has been withdrawn just last year here in Sweden was that unless your company was registered as a joint-stock company, (corporation US) you weren't allowed to register a .se domain. You had to register into subdomains of what in an American perspective could have been subdomains based on the county!.. Something like mycomany.d.se. The really bad part was that there's no logic in the nameing of the "county (län)". Hardly anyone knows the letters of more than their own "län". So hardly anyone used this. And since many couldn't register .se domains they went for the .nu and .com somains. At a time (probably still) there were more swedish companies using .nu than .se domains... What's the lesson we've learned - stupidity has no boundaries... :)

Had they been there earlyer they _might_ have done the same thing to TCP/IP... Or released some sort of "alternative".. Do you remember the _original_ MSN?.. Nice try, but no luck for them (lots of luck for us)... When I came to think of this the first time I was almost scared at the thought of what MS could have done and I even considered not even mentioning it on /. since we all know that MS monitors this placeand that they could pick up the idea... But now I feel a bit more confident and can speak freely... :) ...

    From now on i think standard must become more rigid and controlled by someone (like Kerberos). It may suck, but I think that's a small price to pay considering what MS is capable of and any MS-wannabe that may show up after MS's fall. What do you think?

This kind of monuments are important so that we do not repeat our old mistakes... Still... This doesn't mean that survivors or relatives of the victims of the Columbine shooting would be paying money to get their hand on one of those black trenchcoates so they can hang it on the wall at home. Most of the "war memorabilia" that's sold today is bought by people with similar views as the traded stuff represents. Refusing to realize that is like refusing to admit that Napster is mainly used as a pirating service. (Yes, I do use Napster constantly to get files I can't find in stores - but it's still pirating.) It's easy for Americans (US) to have views on the freedom to trade this sort of stuff because the US had practically no civil victims during WWII. Countries that were involved in that pointless slaughter may, rightfully, have different points of view. Remeber that in Germany it's illegal to even say "Hail Hitler"... This kind of problem that we have here should be disscussed calmly and treated with strong willingness to understand instead of directly condmaning... From both sides.
