  1. Assembler as Introductory to COBOL on Java as a CS Introductory Language? · · Score: 1

The school I am attending used assembler to introduce students to the wonders of computing. The class size dropped from 120 students to 60. The school then proceeded to teach COBOL and CICS arguing that "It has the most user licenses".

  2. Editing Collected Info on Really Targeted Advertising · · Score: 1
I have no problem with agencies collecting information for targeted advertising purposes. I do, however, require that restrictions be set in place.

Collect information, but allow me to view and edit that information before it is submited. By doing this, it allows me to correct any errors that may occur in the ai (artificialy incompetent) program. For instance, I enjoyed the movie "The Thomas Crown Affair". It was a great comedy, and made for an enjoyable evening. I do not, however, approve of *explicit* scenes, such as those that occured in the same movie. Giving me the ability to edit information collected prevents the ai from making the assumption that I do approve of those scenes.

Show only advertisements that fit my profile. If you are going to collect information, use it. Don't submit me to ads from a company(who paid more money than I will see in my lifetime) that has no impact on me. Juno had a service(I don't know if they still do) that presented only the ads that fit my profile. I loved it. The only ad they showed was for Welch's Grape Juice!

  3. The score ruined the movie on Review: The Mummy Returns · · Score: 1
Yea, sure, the music had a tempo that fit the action on the screen but the actual orchestrations were so out of place that it ruined the whole movie for me.

As for the blatant plagiarism and the utterly predictable plot twists I have no comment.

  4. Virus Detected! -- Norton AntiVirus on New, More Destructive Love Bug Variant · · Score: 1
Norton AntiVirus has detected a program on your system that could cause your computer to stop functioning properly
    c:\win.exe
It is recommended that you remove this program imediately.
  5. Sucky CD vs Hot ISP on Napster Bans Metallica Fans · · Score: 1
I have attempted to rip my CD collection to mp3 format for the past year, but the fact that my CD player sucks keeps me from finishing it. The few songs I have been able to get transfered have taken me Hour or more!

The Alternative? Spend 5 min downloading copies of the song and have my entire collection within a week.

I am confident that a significant number of people using programs such as napster are in the same boat as I am considering the junk that is sold at Wal-Mart, RadioShack, Best Buy ...

So unless Metallica plans on including the mp3 versions of their songs on the CD's that I purchase and makes them available if I present a proof of purchase, they can go to hell.com!
