KDE 4 will use Qt 4.0 which is a big improvement in that field. When Qt designer was ported to Qt 4.0 - only the neccesary changes to make it compile - the "libqt size decreased by 5%, Designer num relocs went down by 30%, mallocs use by 51%, and memory use by 15%. The measured Designer startup time went down by 18%".

I think that Sun UltraSPARC IV can replace UltraSPARC III smoothly (they share the same socket, Sun can provide help doing this, c...)
According to:

"Executing on Sun's Throughput Computing strategy, the dual-thread UltraSPARC IV processor marks the first milestone in Sun's Chip Multithreading (CMT) roadmap (...) It protects customers' investments through 100 percent application binary compatibility, and can provide an upgrade path for current UltraSPARC III processor-based systems "
It's like replacing an Athlon Socket AM2 Single Core with a Dual Core (I think...)

From the FAQ: Source-Navigator supports C, C++, Java, Tcl, [incr Tcl], FORTRAN and COBOL, and provides and SDK so that you can write your own parsers.
Use Source-Navigator to:
* Analyze how a change will effect external source modules.
* Find every place in your code where a given function is called.
* Find each file that includes a given header file.
* Use the grep tool to search for a given string in all your source files.
According to Anandtech (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx ?i=2269&p=17), Radeon XPress 200 IGP can be found with SidePort: "The Radeon Xpress 200 supports a local frame buffer attached to what ATI refers to as their "SidePort". The SidePort is a 32-bit DDR memory interface that the integrated graphics can use either instead of or alongside the Athlon 64's memory controller."
This improves the power of the GPU!

The compiler provided by Compaq doubles the performance of gcc in floating point operations. Does Slackware -or any distribution for Alpha- provide this compiler? Are tehir packages compiled against gcc? What if you compile them against ccc?

gcc has not been designed for the Alpha platform, while Compaq adapted his compiler from Tru64Unix to Linux.

According to

There are no processor upgrades avalaible to the Sun V240 or Sun V210 Server. I suppose that the upgrade is only avalaible to the Big Iron Systems.

The use of RAM in pairs is due to the inclusion of an Intel Integrated Graphics.
If you put the RAM in pairs the amount of bandwith is double compared to the use of one single module (dual channel vs single channel)
