Reality check people, if other countries went for 2 days without a leader, there would be bloodshed. Most countries change their leader via revolution. We are taking several days to figure out who our new president is.... So what??? We are still running fine (besides the pussies who are selling on the stock market). We will have a president eventually. Imagine the potential for corruption if we used electronic voting, whole new system would need to be developed, hacking, electronic fraud, computer crashes, OS compatibility, etc.. etc.. Some backcountry town in Alabama isn't ready for electronic voter submission.

Okay enough ranting and raving, my point is, its not perfect but is a hell of a lot better than most other countries could do, if you don't like it, then go change it and stop whining

Will everyone have equal access to new technologies, or will they become the property of corporate and social elites with specialized knowledge and lots of disposable income?

Lets look at some other countries. I have a big dilemma about whether to get a Palm 3 regular or color, and am I going to WAP enable my website. People in 3rd world countries have problems like, people with aids thinking they can cure themselves by having sex with a virgin, lack of food, plague. It is already with the social elites.

Perhaps we should require that before new technologies are licensed, deployed or sold, we need a technological impact statement.

I think that this is a GREAT idea. Not only in the tech sector but how about cloning, gene selection, abortion, etc etc. If we hade some law or code that established a set of ethics or rules before we unveiled a new technology, that would be a great way to ensure proper use of the technology. Is it feasible, no. I don't think so because other countries would develop the technology of our discoveries, people are not that patient, and we live in a CAPITALIST society. If it makes money then it survives, this idea would have to be a governmentally employed system, and then the gov. would be restricted the release of technology -not a good thing, to say the least!

I think that most of the questions that Katz presents could be solved/answered with open sourcing. Someone comes out with a new hard drive, release all the tech specs and let the public hack through it. The person could still retain copyright. This would make copyrights much more specific and not allow the huge vague copyrights that are plaguing us now.

Personally I think this is a step in the right direction. How can companies be held responsible for the misuse of their products. Getting rid of naptster is not a solution, we will just go back to ftp or Gnutella or P2P.

If we start restricting what can and cant be sold over an independant enitity like ebay then full throttle net restrictions would start to take effect and the internet would lose what makes it so great.

  8. P4 is a future product on Pentium 4 And Brookdale Update · · Score: 4

    Because of several reasons

1)The chipset is quite large and it will be migrated down to the .13micron soon.
2)It potentially will reach speeds of 4Ghz, just wait for them to get it up to 1.8-2.0 and watch AMD fumble the ball. The P4 at 1.4 is only about as fast as a P3 at 1.1 anyway.
    3)The Price obviously
4)Like the article said it doesnt support most memory types now, so when it does it will drastically improve performance. Why, because memory speed is the primary limiter for processor performance. Why do you think Intel tried to do that whole Rambus thing??? If you have fast memory it helps your processer out a lot.

Personally Im going to wait for someone to make a mobo that supports the 64bit Itanium, or two of them! then run BeOs -drool-.
