  1. Simple... on Resisting the Management Career Path? · · Score: 3
Put laxitives in your boss's coffee. This will do one of two things:

1: Make him extremeley angry at you and not even think of promoting you

2: Keep him in the can, so he won't be able to find the time to promote you.

  2. People prepared for Y2K get last laugh on Will The Power Grid Fail? · · Score: 1

Now all those people with 20 or 30 generators in their garage are laughing the mad scientist laugh. I can see it now. "We're Prepared! The boy scouts won't kick us out anymore!"

  3. Trouble's a'brewin' on Text Adventures On Cell Phones · · Score: 1
Now everyone of those people that I talked about last time, the yuppies that almost kill me with a cell phone in their hand, will feel that they can do whatever they want because they have the +15 ring of invincibility. Now why can't I cast fireball in their gas tank?

By the way, I just had an experence with that. Around 11:00 EST I was driving my sister and a friend to the video rental shop when a guy in a convertable -- and a phone to his skull -- decided not to wait for the people with the green light (me especially). If my car didn't have the acceleration it has my sister and friend could be dead.

  4. My two bits on Essential Anime · · Score: 1
In my anime addiction I have come across many series that I thought was moving.

Neon Gennisis Evangelion Produced by ADV.
This is by far my favorite anime. It has mecha fighting for the 6 year old in us all, love subplots for the romantics in us; it has a little religion in there to keep things interesting and mysterious, but the part that I enjoy best: The main characters are 14 year old kids with mental problems. It's 26 episodes long with two movies that will be produced by Manga sometime in the near future.

Those Who Hunt Elves also by ADV.
A light 10 episode comedy about three people trying to find spell fragments so they can get home. The problem is that the spell fragments are tattooed on the naked bodies of elves. This makes for some interesting viewing when one of the main characters -- A body builder that knows no manners -- tries to help out. It isn't the most sophisticated anime, and the art is so-so, but I enjoy it on a weekend with a Jolt or other caffinated beverage.

    Macross Plus by Manga
A hardcore Jet/Robot anime in 8 episodes. The art is fantastic. It's been a while since I've seen this, but I remember the awesome scenes of dogfighting. It has a subplot of an AI falling in love with a pilot. All in all, good for a late night when you can't fall asleep.

    Princess Mononoke by Miramax
This movie has brought back my respect for dubs. Due out soon on VHS and DVD, this is the most wonderful anime movie I've ever watched. It has Gillian Anderson as a giant wolf god. This movie tells the story of a cursed tribal leader and his quest to be reconciled with nature. A must see, no matter what you like.

That's my short list, I have a few other titles. If you'd like to see them, just E-Mail me.

    Ja Ne!

  5. I'm scared to drive now. on Toolkit Available For WAP programming · · Score: 4
I've had some close calls with people on their portable phones while driving. The last thing I need is for some yuppie in a Lexus playing Tetris or Pac-Man while trying to pass me.

Let it be known that I have no arguments against Asteroids or Missle Command. I would accept that.

  6. Dierct from the RIAA web site... on MP3.com Loses In Court · · Score: 1
...Which, by the way, has more useless graphics than Microsoft has useless code.

From the piracy button page: "The association's position on piracy is clear: The recording industry will not, and cannot, tolerate the unauthorized reproduction and distribution of recorded music. "

    Might I make a glossary?

Recorded music: Music that is recorded. i.e. on an Audio Tape, computer, CD, etc.

Unauthorized reproduction: Making copies of these recordings that are not sanctioned by the RIAA.

[Unauthorized] Distrobution: Giving these copies, or master recordings, to comrades.

Ok, now for a revealed meaning of this statement.

"We control the music. Don't do anything unless we approve."

Damn, I guess I have to stop humming and singing in the shower.

Whenever I curse now, the 4 letter words I will use are: MPAA, RIAA, and the normal F---.

  7. The Fall of America. on COPPA, What Are You Doing About It? · · Score: 2
When, oh when will these jerks realize.
    They don't own the internet.
The internet dosen't exist in one physical place.
The internet is basically "Use at your own risk."
Therefore: They have no real juristiction in it.

The US is very unstable now. With the recent riots in Seattle and Washington D.C. and the numerous cases of police brutality and overreaction in these riots, "The Land of the Free" is looking more like Neo-Toyko in Akira. The tear gas canisters are being fired at point blank range, mass arrests for using the 1st amendment.

Not that this is totally bad. I kind of find this exciting. I lust over change and dynamic government. I am one of those who believe that people can take care of themselves and don't need a government looking over their shoulder.

Which brings me on-topic. We don't need this law. If parents are so worried about this, why don't they monitor their children. If the children don't want the parents to monitor them, they shouldn't do dumb things. I was an expert at formulating lies when I was younger than 13, and I would use it all the time. Why don't these kids lie about themselves? If people would just use common sense and understand that the 'net isn't anything more than a sprawl and that you have to take care of yourself in it, then we wouldn't have this problem.

Ok, Ok, I'm proably going to kill the humor of this post. All I want to know is how can a mass of 1s and 0s be able to have a sexual orentation? It's inanimate! the posting could have been PRODUCED by a lifeform with a sexual orentation but the post it'self could not have a personality. (Well, maybe on this kickass slashdot server, but that would be pushing it.) Please, moderate this to flamebate. After all, I'm a P.C. guy that would have given his left arm to be in Seattle durring the WTO riots. What pisses me off about saying that something is "Gay"

  10. Is older better? on Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Preview · · Score: 1
What really ticks me off about these new video games is that they take out the more cool aspects of the original idea and charge the user 25 cents more. The only new game that I have seen keep the coolness aspect is Guantlet Ledgends *drool* that game is so cool (then again, I'm an RPG fanatic so...).

Does anyone remember the Star Wars vector game from Atari? That game had excellent playability and the best part was...It was 100% wireframe! I must have spent over $90 playing that when it was pulled out from the back storage room at my local arcade.

You all are probably wondering something along the lines of "Just what is this person trying to get at?" I will respond by saying, "How do you know I am a carbon based life form." And, "Have you given your old Atari 2600 a hug today?"

  11. Amazing Electrons on MIT, Nanovation to Partner on Photonic Research · · Score: 1
Why don't they study how to implement the use of the strange proberties of split electrons...or Tachyons (faster than light particles, theoretically). As proven by the space program and Arthur C. Clark, Light just isn't fast enough anymore.

So, although a light connection would be fast in small range connections (earth based), it just won't do in long range connections.

    Just some humble thoughts.
