    Now THAT'S a good idea.

Perhaps within the geek segment of their customer base. I don't think iTunes success supports your assertion.

Disney and Apple should remain seperate and focus on what they are good at

You mean kind of like Apple and Pixar have done for the past umpteen years with the same CEO at the helm? I kinda doubt in any acquisition scenario that Jobs would step in to run the Disney division. He likes Iger, and I think he would retain him as his Lieutenant in charge over there. Jobs knows an important part of his success is letting really smart people do what they do, and he applies pressure and vision to help them exceed what they would do by themselves.

My first exposure to cable was in Manhattan, where people welcomed it because it was damn near impossible to pull a signal. After that, it was a great idea to pay money to not see commercials, but then the commercials came anyway =( Thank god for TiVo, but I digress. My point is you are the first individual that I have ever heard saying "people thought cable was suicide".

The jury is definitely still out on Satellite radio. You did read about how XM's loss widening this week, didn't you?

I'll bet a few idiots will pay for their podcast, however, I don't think it's going to work very well. First, people are going to have to go seek out the audiobook version of their content on a weekly basis, instead of having it auto-sync'ed to their iPod. Second, this is going to greatly decrease their audience, which is never good for performers. Third, they've priced themselves out of the market, a podcast is not worth $3.50/hr when TV is going for 1.99/hr.

I could see paying a subscription of about $7/month to a podcast aggregator site to gain access to all of the content new and archived for maybe a season. Like I said, some people will buy their show but most people won't. In the process, they have alienated their audience, thus the reference to shooting oneself in the foot.

I believe the point brunson was trying to make by saying "Theory of Jesus" is you don't see organized efforts by the scientific community trying to impose their will on the worlds religions by trying to make them state their beliefs are only a theory.

You would think some biblical teachings would dissuade this sort of behavior. Truly if Deutsch had such strong faith (or some may argue any faith at all), would he not simply pray for all of us that believe in the Big Bang? Instead of trying to exert his own will upon others, should he not accept them for they are, especially considering that such perspectives do about 0 to harm him and others who share his version of "faith"?

It comes as no surprise to me that it has turned out such an obvious control freak has been proven publicly to be a liar.

I'll play along too. =) Let's say a major corporation owns major streets in a variety of shopping districts in a variety of cities. Then they send out advertising to various shops, telling them of the opportunity to pay a fee and in return the corporation will go dig up the sidewalk in front of competing shops. Hell, they'll dig up the entire sidewalk except in front of yours and even provide teleportation services to customers of your shop. Of course, your competition can avoid all this if they pay the same fees.

This bears striking similarities to a small enterprise I observed when I lived in an Italian neighborhood in New York during the late 70's/early 80's. There was a social club on the block, and the wise guys maintained an armed presence in the neighborhood 24x7. This made our neighborhood very very safe, which helped local businesses. No burglaries in over 20 years we used to brag. One time there was an attempted burglary. When the cops finally showed up 90 minutes later, the wise guys from the social club handed him over, bloody from head to toe. Poor skel apparently fell down the stairs while trying to escape. Anyway, this enterprise was financed by the shopkeepers in the neighborhood. To avoid having their windows broken every 3 weeks, they would pay a small stipend to the social club.

It's funny, what the social club was doing could have gotten them prosecuted under RICO statutes. Actually, I'm pretty sure even conspiring to do what they were doing is probably illegal under those laws, but IANAL.

Nice hat you have there? Is that tin foil?

Really, calling a non-final decision on these patents "politically motivated" is a stretch. If your conspiracy theory held any water, the USPTO would have issued final decisions, thereby removing any possibility that the patents may be upheld when NTP appeals the non-final decision. Yes, I know that hat of yours is telling you that the USPTO will control the review process and it will be a sham, however that theory overlooks the fact that NTP will be able to file suit against the USPTO as the first sign of any shenanigans, and then have the benefit of judicial intervention.

Overall this is a very good thing. It lays down the gauntlet that these shill IP firms like NTP may have to seriously cough up some cash to try to exert their extortion. I really don't see what could be patentable for wireless email. We've have packet radio for decades already.
