Alot of people have to pay by the minute for their internet connections, so downloading and reading spam costs money. In places like Europe, Africa, Australia, etc, an Internet connection is expensive.
Personally I don't pay by the minute, but spam is still annoying as hell.
The whole business model of the recording industry will have to change. Everyone will get the digital copy of the music for free, but they will pay for live performances, tee-shirts, posters, etc.
The performers will have to make their living by doing performances, like they did a hundred years ago.
This is why the record industry is afraid of Napster -- Napster cuts out the middle man. And the people who download using Napster do go to concerts and support the artists that way.
Nahh, games are to complicated for beginner programmers. I recomend Java, because it is a relatively clean and elegant OO language, and students like making web pages, so they could make some simple applets. If they could put their applets on their personal web pages, I think that would be a lot of fun for them. C or C++ is not good for a beginner, because the students become too focused grammar and syntax instead of thinking about the big picture.
When I was in high school it was big news when we got a bunch of brand new 286's. (I guess I'm showing my age here)... In grade school we had Commodore Pets and Applet ]['s, which were a lot of fun in their day.
Every time Microsoft comes out with something that is supposed to make my life easier, it always has the opposite effect... that annoying talking paper clip comes to mind.
I agree. I don't think these guys have any concept of the size of the project they are undertaking. Besides, who would use it? The average user already was MS Windows which came with his PC, and no company would use a clone version.
I believe they orignally stole the technology from Norton Utilities, and the courts made them pay a settlement to continue using it.

Yes, but are their subtle changes to the book EVERY YEAR to force all the students to buy the current version?

He should release his fruit as shareware, then if people enjoy it they can send $5.00 :-)

Yeah, on Windows 2000 the command line icon is buried one level deaper than before -- now it's in the accessories folder.

It is a little known fact that Geeks make the best husbands. There is an amusing article about this topic here.
I would be more concerned about viruses and trojans comming from Microsoft than China.
