It makes pretty much everything take longer to do. It's harder to find programs you're looking for. Its harder to manage your windows. No taskbar? Why? Less cluttered top bar? Since when was that an issue? Searching for applications? Alt+f2, name of executable, enter.

I'd say its as appalling as windows 8. Looks like I'll be using windows 7 and gnome 2 for a long time.

Now you should just install debian and be done with ubuntu. They're heading the way of mozilla. They're not just going to make one dumb decision, they're going to keep doing it.

How is it faster? With that, you have to type in the full name of the executable, whereas with the Win7 start menu search, I only had to type in "ca" and calculator is the top result. So here are the options:

    Win+R, c, a, l, c, enter
    Win, c, a, enter

Why bother typing more? Also, the search box IS a run prompt, so if you do insist on typing a full executable out, or if you want to give a program arguments, you can just hit Win instead of Win+R.

The problem is that having tons of icons on the taskbar clogs up the taskbar so your open windows get compressed. I use small icons, have only 8 things pinned to the taskbar, and it takes up about 1/5 the width of my 1680px wide monitor. I used to have more, but then there just wasn't enough space for open windows.

Its pretty flexible. For example, if type "moz" or "fir" it will find firefox immediately, and it also works if you type firefox.exe. It won't correct typos like a search engine, but if you only need to type a few letters, its unlikely you'll make a typo.

First of all, its very reliable. There's no "hoping" that windows finds the right program. It works on both the friendly name of the program and the name of the executable. Second, you can just hit enter after typing the name of it, or if there are multiple choices use the keyboard to navigate.

Third, is your typing really that slow and/or your it takes that much effort to move from the mouse to the keyboard and back? I'd rather save time then burden myself by forcing myself to use a mouse for everything when a keyboard is often the better solution.

If you got it out the door first, then there will be a period where you will be the only one in the market, allowing you to sell it at a non-marginal price.

Also, there are way more disadvantages than advantages. Take this scenario for example: You make something and patent it. I, with no knowledge of your invention, invent the same thing, but since its patented now I have to pay you for some reason

Another example: Lets say I want to make something that is similar to your invention, but I have an improvement I'd like to make. Instead of just improving your invention, I have to go out of my way to reinvent the wheel so that I don't infringe upon your patents. The patent system discourages incremental design, something which is essential for innovation.

Many reasons why they might do that. For one, Innovatio, by suing smaller companies, establishes precedent that their patents are valid, which would make it easier for them to go after the big guys next. However, if a company like Cisco preemptively went to court, they would stand a much better chance since they have more money for lawyers than Innovatio.

Second, even if Innovatio never went after manufacturers, best case this could still hurt sales. Worst case, someone would try to sue them for knowingly selling devices that violate patents.
