  1. Also look at Jakarta JMeter on Testing Products for Web Applications? · · Score: 1

Apache/Jakarta seems to have two tools for automated functional and load testing of web sites.

JMeter is more of a load testing tool, though it also can verify results. Latka seems to be more aimed at verifying the correctness of the HTTP response, rather than load testing. They are both extensible, open source, and Java. I like them over proprietary, closed, os-specific tools.

JMeter has a nice GUI, can graph the response time and show the http response for each request. It can also be run in batch mode and in server/client mode for distributed load testing.

They both have support for testing real-world web sites (keeps cookies, allows user authentication).

  2. Well-configured touchpads are really cool on Review of the Sony Vaio PCG-X9 · · Score: 1

I've been surprised how much I like the touchpad on my Compaq Presario 1925. I didn't realize how configurable they are (at least with the Compaq software). I have mine set to "tap to click" and "tap once to be in move mode" -- it's very natural because you feel like you're physically pressing a button or dragging windows around with your finger. I also have the "scroll" feature on -- the touchpad acts like a mousewheel when I run my finger up and down the right edge.

PS: love the size of my Compaq (the base with DVD player comes off, 13" screen) and don't think I'll ever get a larger notebook. I hope notebook makers continue the trend of thin machines via detachable CD/floppy and continue making 13" or smaller screens. I'd rather have longer battery than a 15" brick. A 14" would be cool if it had SXGA resolution (so I can PCAnywhere into work in fullscreen mode).

PS2: all notebook owners should get the WebGear Aviator2.4 wireless networking kit . $170, one card in your desktop connected to a cable modem, the other in your notebook, and you've got yourself a portable webpad and MP3 jukebox that you can take anywhere in your house/apartment.
