the only way the spending numbers can be twisted to prove a point. Spending per person would be reasonable... Along with an explanation of what defines "Health Care Spending"
Whenever you see X as a percentage of Y you should immediately put your common sense based truth detector on.
These are fantastic books, but they are not meant to be read cover to cover. They are reference volumes. Before the Internet this was what we had.
Had to laugh at the posters that say the books are too hard. In the early days of software development you wrote your own database...from scratch. Your program started with a loop that read the keyboard... You decided what key did what... You wrote your own screen handler... In the early days of the PC you modified the memory of the video card directly to draw things... So if you wanted a circle, you needed to know geometry!
I'm not saying those days were better by any means but algorithms do to things like maintain tree structures for your database indexes was a VERY hot topic of discussion around the "Dat water cooler.... And yes, I'm old:-)
You are correct, it is the abandonment of the "reach" model created by Sarnoff in pricing media that is ultimately responsible for this. It is an outcome that nobody expected. The more salacious the headline, the higher the anticipated CPI, and CPI is what drives revenue, not facts.
Slashdot is another contributor to the problem by posting crap like this every day.
When the polls are in the [insert party of your choice] favor, they proclaim that polls are AWESOME and speak for the Majority. When the polls are against [insert party of your choice] then polls are meaningless.
When the polls are horribly wrong, they are not to be believed, and if the polls are bad for [insert party of your choice] then it's NEVER the fault of the policies, the history, the campaign, the candidate, or anything that might suggest that they were wrong about something, ever.
A failure of this magnitude in Market Research would have large numbers of people and vendors fired. But a failure of this magnitude in politics results in a desperate attempt to retain the status quo.
During the Bush era (Bush the 2nd) the lefties made a movie about assassinating him. Can you imagine the fervor if the right had made such a movie about Obama? But since Bushitler was President there were no howling wailing complaints about hate speech, just a torrent of hate coming from the left.
And now we have that same tired old argument that you nailed that the American left uses as often as it can. It's very simple. If I can get your opposing viewpoint declared hate speech I can suppress your opinion and therefore in the name of free speech I take your free speech away.
The only thing you can't do is scream fire in a crowded theater for crissakes.
As the Democrats haven't been this angry since the Republicans force them to free their slaves, or forced them to give the vote to women, this is only the beginning of insanity to come the next four years. Make popcorn...
Let's take the feigned righteous indignation over the flag remark. Justice Anton Scalia said pretty much the same, exact thing two years ago. No outrage then. Didn't even make the news.
Can't agree more but with the election over the competition for clicks mandates an ever increasingly salacious headline.
Soon we'll get back to the same old tired threads about global warming, universal basic income, Microsoft bashers... you know, stuff we haven't seen on Slashdot before...
Obama used the full force and power of the government to attempt to silence conservatives, expanded government surveillance, gave the health insurance industry the biggest bribe ever, imported people that were terrorists, fucked up the Middle East with more "regime change" bullshit, presided over the most anemic economic recovery in history, fanned the flames of racism for political gain, promised all kinds of awesome shit to fractional groups in return for votes and failed to deliver shit, shut businesses down because of their political affiliation, etc. etc.
The whole liberal We are so benign and the opposition is so evil is one of the reasons they are in the dumpster, support wise. Heck, the Democrats haven't been this diminished since the evil Republicans forced them to free their slaves.
Donald Trump is the most popular Republican candidate in history bringing in over 62.4 million votes during the 2016 presidential election. He also secured victories in at least 83 percent of the counties in the United States. Trump is also ranked the third most popular presidential candidate in history. However, there is one huge difference in Trump’s popular vote win and that of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Trump is the only popular vote candidate in the top three to receive success in more than 25 percent of the county-level vote, a victory that has all but been overlooked in the media due to the popular vote margin and recount initiatives.
NBC News notes that Barack Obama won with less than a 25 percent victory rate across all of the U.S. counties, scrapping in with a county victory rate of just 22 percent. Should Hillary Clinton have won the race based on popular vote alone, she would have beat Obama’s record of an all-time low with just a 15-17 percent success rate of the county-level vote.
However, the situation was very different for the Republican party’s most successful candidate, Donald Trump. The president-elect accomplished something unprecedented by ranking in the top three most popular candidates while maintaining a drastic county-level lead over Clinton. Trump received his popular vote count while earning a victory in 83-85 percent of the counties within the United States. In fact, the Atlantic notes that Trump’s lead in 3,000 of the 3,100 counties was so significant it would have resulted in a landslide victory for the businessman. If the top 100 most populous counties are removed and the remaining 3,000 counties were only counted, Trump won the 3,000 counties’ popular vote by 11.5 million votes.
“Clinton has won only about 420 counties total—far fewer than any popular vote winner over the past century. In the roughly 3000 counties beyond the 100 largest, Trump trounced Clinton by about 11.5 million votes.”
So your argument is completely, and utterly wrong. What is happening is a concerted effort by a minority to ensure that Trump is irrelevant before he even gets in office.
When Democrats win by.000001% they declare they have a MANDATE from the people, but when they lose, they immediately attack the winner and do their best to make them as ineffective as possible. That's been their playbook for 50 years. Now it's really critical, as they are in the worst shape they have been since the Republicans made them free the slaves... Since 2008 the voters have rejected progressive policies, I'm sorry, but this is what is happening like it or not.
In Michigan - where I live (.vs. what I read on the Internet) the voting machines are op-scan units that read your paper ballot. At the end of the day they print on paper a summary sheet. The machine has no connection to the Internet, or the telephone system, and are the same machines they have used for years and years. There are no "electronic voting machines" we are a paper ballot op-scan state. Optical Scanning is pretty darn reliable...
The person floating this theory is from the U of M. which is located in the town of Ann Arbor, who's motto is "7 square miles surrounded by Reality". Around here, it's known as "AA" or "A squared' which most folks outside of "The Biosphere" jokingly say is an abbreviation for "Arrogant Assholes". As the joke goes, the three things you can't find in Ann Arbor are 1) A parking Place 2) A good Steak 3) A Republican. It is the epicenter of Michigan Snow Flakery, where rich liberal kids attend an uber-left college. One should take anything coming from the U of M faculty with a very large grain of salt. It's a pretty little town, but it's no secret it's a progressive paradise.
Within hours of this accusation Michigan's elections director expressed skepticism....

The day after the election with millions of web pages containing exit polls and voter data and you can say with a straight face that "The demographics keep moving toward the Democrats". The exact, polar opposite is true.
The wall the DNC erected around it's convention - you know - to promote "free speech" (e.g. keep everyone who disagreed far, far away) worked just great.
Every Republican since my earliest days (I'm 61) has been declared a Nazi by the Democrats. Every single one. They were all declared to be stupid, ignorant, racist, xenophobic, radical, dangerous, bad for America radicals. Every single one.
It's people spreading this BS that are the problem, and they were just handed a resounding defeat. Take a good look in the mirror and consider not being such a racist. It would be good for all of us. Really.

is complete and utter bullshit. An unbiased "EXPERT" who doesn't desire to exert power over others does not exist.

Here is an actual event

(There wasn't any)
he likes Yes Men who bow to him and reinforce his ego
This is exactly what Obama did, and why they lost. Trump seems to be picking all kinds of really smart people...
many among them actually wish police or military had more power
Good grief, man, do you know ANYTHING about conservatives other than what you've read about them on Think Progress, the Huffing and Puffing post, etc?
Wisconsin and Michigan have both been turning slowly red over the years. Of course as usual the Democrats blame everybody except themselves.
The story you are quoting has been proven wrong. Google it.

Perhaps you should try reading stories from BOTH sides rather than getting all your news from the Huffing and Puffing Post.
Trump won 2,600 counties. Clinton won 500.

George Orwell, 1984.
Yep. Thank you for speaking the truth.
Didn't happen. That's what you get for believing the ministry of propaganda a.k.a. the MSM

The election's over, time to let go of the dire predictions about how the world is going to end unless your guy gets elected.
