Have you ever considered that North Korea is actually a Utopia, and that our government is the one lying to us?

  2. Re:Who was really at fault? on Stealing Laptops For Class Credit · · Score: 1

I've had a few laptops stolen from a computer lab that were chained down with kensington locks.. They managed to get the window off its rails, then reach in and pull 3 laptops out, all 3 of them the locks weren't strong enough to survive them pulling them hard enough. Maybe it was because I used a cheaper brand lock or something, but still kinda annoying :(

  4. Re:What? on Zynga Accused of Cloning Hit Indie iPhone Game Tiny Tower · · Score: 1

I'm assuming you're trolling. TinyTower may be inspired by SimTower, but it's not as if it's a complete copy of the game (SimTower for example you didn't manage anything to do with the people, you handled the tower, they handled themselves). Zynga's tower is a complete ripoff of TinyTower, even down to the 'tiny' details.

  5. Re:Sim Tower on Zynga Accused of Cloning Hit Indie iPhone Game Tiny Tower · · Score: 5, Informative

I found TinyTower whilst looking for something similar to SimTower for my iPhone. It's quite obvious that TinyTower is inspired by SimTower, however it's not really all that much like what SimTower was. Zynga's version however is a direct copy of everything from TinyTower.

  7. Re:So.. on Ask Slashdot: Ideal High School Computer Lab? · · Score: 2

Noooo, Promethium boards aren't that good. The SmartTech SmartBoards are better, the software is much much nicer. Have a good look at the one you want, the new ones use DViT tech (ie. Cameras and InfraRed lights to work out where you're touching). The closer you can get without it registering a touch the better. I've got a Hitachi board and it registers your finger like 1.5cm out and the software is the worst I've ever seen. The SmartBoards are about 0.4cm out from the board that it registers your touch (ie. you pretty much have to touch the board for it to detect) and the software is quite good :)

  8. It's just ambient on "World's Most Relaxing Music" Composed · · Score: 1

The music is from a pretty common genre called Ambient. There's a LOT of music out there very similar to this, it's not some "magical track" that someone put together for this specific purpose, it's just a normal 60-50bpm soundscaped ambient track... Other artists in this category: Yellow6, Hybryds, Good Night, Gel Sol, Ishq, Kenji Williams, Ishvara, Ishq, Senzar, Grey Area, Lähtö, Foundation Hope, Our Sleepless Forest, Bluetech, Steinbrüchel, Aethenor, Steve Roach... And that's just the names I can think off the top of my head...

  17. Re:Implied Admission? on Apple Releases iOS 4.3.3 To Fix Location Tracking · · Score: 2

I think it's more an issue of them thinking that it wouldn't really bother anyone, especially that the point of it was to help the GPS function run better. So this update is probably going to increase GPS location speeds in certain cases (ie. if you're somewhere you haven't been for a while). Apple have said that the data will have its lifespan reduced (ie. it will only keep a short amount of time worth of updates), thus enabling it to still actually work. Also if you turn off Location Services, then the data file will get deleted.

  19. Why Chess? on Armenia Makes Chess Compulsory In Schools · · Score: 1

Whilst Chess promotes creative thinking, logic and other sorts of strange and whacky buzzwords, it's lacking any school curriculum linked ideas (based on the NSW Primary School Curriculum). I would have thought that if they want to use a game this way, they could have used some sort of D&D or Warhammer style game, where you can link them into parts of the curriculum like Maths or Literacy, hell, you could even throw in Role Playing ideas like creative writing and art, all based on the game they're playing. There's a school that is trialling a similar project using World of Warcraft: http://wowinschool.pbworks.com/w/page/5268731/FrontPage

  20. Why not Both? on The Case Against GUIs, Revisited · · Score: 1

Why not just have both? Lets take apache httpd.conf for example. Someone who's good at CLI can whack that open in vi/emacs, jump down to the line they want and change an option, or write a script that appends their configuration (eg. adding a vhost) automatically then roll it out across multiple servers. And then, for people who aren't doing a specific change and need to be able to see what's going on (eg. first time setup, where you're going through a lot of the options as you go anyway) can have the GUI open, where the GUI is just a pretty front end for the text based config underneath. Cisco routers work this way, they've got the web based gui that you can set things up in, or you can work in the CLI and config everything that way. Why not just offer both and give the users the choice to use whatever they please? Both CLI and GUI have advantages.
