Well, never did really like Carl Sagan, but that's besides the point. I guess now we know why he kept repeating himself over andover and over. That too is besides the point.
People: marijuana kills you.
At best, you're slowly turning your brain into mush.
I've seen people die because of marijuana. Either indirectly, because they were dumb enough to operate heavy machinary (namely cars and motorcycles) under the influence.
Or directly, because they had really low blood preassure, and the first joint they tried made their blood preassure drop really low. There were a few people there, all of which, except for me, were stoned. I go "Hey, where's Tracy?" and they all start giggling. "She fell asleep!". Well, she didn't, she fainted and would have died if I haden't made her eat a whole bunch of cofee and salt.
Now I'm not trying to tell all of you not to smoke pot. I wish you didn't, and I want you all to know that even though I've never met you, it hurts me personally to know people do that.
what I'm saying is, don't try and justify your own actions by the actions of others. Jesus, who cares if Carl Sagan smoked something or not? You think because he, or the President of the United States did it, that makes it ok? Well, it doesn't. If you want to smoke pot for your own sakes and ruin your own brains with chemicals, that's your own business, not Carl Sagan's.
Yes, major rant, but this hit a raw nerve.
When you guys lose as many friends to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, you'll be saying the same things.
Not that I don't like having the cool xlockmore OpenGL modes run on my machine, nor do I dislike being able to play q3test, but when will someone finally port ElectroPaint to Linux? The single most amazing OpenGL application ever? Do I have to go buy an old Indy?
Heh, quite a coincidence, but the banner ad I have right now is for an SGI Linux box. (:
Anyway, this is obviously really good for Linux in general - it's a huge push by a big company with a lot of resources (granted, less than they had a few years ago). I'm also glad to see NT declared "unprofitable".
I know they're not exactly dumping Cray into/dev/null, nor giving up on MIPS and IRIX, but they're spinning them off to independant companies which is a bit sad - much as I like to see NT declared unprofitable, it's sad to see Cray and IRIX grouped there, too.
Still... it's better than losing SGI. And maybe now there's finally a chance of getting Electropaint on Linux! for those who don't know, it's this really simple-yet-amazing OpenGL demo that came with IRIX.
I believe Hotmail use Qmail, which is open-source. When MS bought them out they tried to switch to NT/Exchange, but couldn't get it to work, so they're back on Solaris/Qmail now. I believe they support a large userbase which not only have attachements, but a whole lotta spam, to...
I'm going to wait a year or two, an then I'll start a company that builds The ad-less PC. Imagine how much extra I could charge per PC!
All I'll need is the OpenBios project, I belive I saw an open CPU project somewhere... might be some decent, transparent Windoze emulation (or, heck, KOffice will be out, right?).
This Let's Put An Ad In Everything is starting to get a teeny bit too annoying. Let's all Email Phoenix and tell them the Build-Our-Own-PC crowd is going to boycott them unless that goes away.

I agree, "First!" type people should not be allowed to post. But even if you could find a decent way of preventing that, there's nothing stopping them from reasing the article and flaming the guy...

You're lucky, I ordered mine from camecellar.com because that was the only place you could pre-order from at the time. Then gamecellar's website stopped working, they don't let you chekc the order status, there's no information on whether or not it'll ship at all, let a lone when. If I see it in CompUSA before my $16 Express Overnight Fedex gets here I'm going to be so pissed...
Once his mind is made up, come hell or high water, he is not changing it back.
SCO have their mind made up about Linux. I'm honestly surprised about their Linux Binary Compatibility thing - maybe there's hope for them yet.
Then again, I was at a Unix conference once, and the SCO guy was up talking about Openserver 5. At the Q&A, someone asked whether SCO will have a certain feature 'like Linux', and the guy just lost it and started yelling at him.
Well, technically I never went to college, but I learned a hell of a lot at various universities. Mainly I used to sneak into the Unix labs and IRC around on the vt100s around when I was 14, because talking to people all over the world facinated me. Of course, I had to learn how to use the VTs, and I had to learn how to use Unix, and I had to learn how to hack (not crack!) it, and work with it, and in it, and around it.
I have this friend with some fancy degree in Computer Science. He took one course which actually had anything to do with computers. The rest were math classes. He's not a geek. He spent 4 years studying CS and he'd be lost if you took the Silicon Coated Rubber Ball out of his mouse.
People have always told me that not having a degree will impact my career, but, to be honest, I don't want to work for a place that cares more about what degree I have than what experience I've got. That kind of place would probably make me cut my hair and frown upon Pink Floyd T-Shirts.
I kind of miss not going through the whole 'college experience', but I don't drink so I don't really know how much of an effect it'd have had on me (:

Well, while I'm not really that much of an OpenGL programmer, I feel it would be considerably easier to port it if there was source code available.
Meanwhile, let's see if there's a cheap Indy on eBay...
Heck, I'd pay for a Linux binary of ep. Not a whole lot, but I'd buy it for like $20. I like it that much.

Make that two guaranteed sales. Too bad I can't moderate that one up...

Where/Who/What is Demark?
I've got an idea.

Really? They sounded French to me...

Please choose one:
P.S. I liked it, but I thought they ended it too soon. God Save Us From Sequels.
The most interesting thing in that post is the Providing Thinkpads to Hackers bit!
I want one! Anyone have more info on that?
Of course, posting it here will completely kill anyone's chances of getting one, but still...
