  1. The next Darwin Awards winner? on Inflatable Spaceship Ready for Test · · Score: 1

This almost sounds like the begining of one of those "Darwin Awards" stories.

  2. Crow for everyone? on Election Wrapping Up (Part 2) · · Score: 1

I love it. Old "Dubya" is ahead by 200,000 votes in Florida right now. Almost every damn channel is eating crow right now! This is great! I got to watch Larry King AND Tom Brokaw eat crow!!

    Life is good.

  3. Censorware on Federally Mandated Censorware Up For Vote · · Score: 2

I work for a large school district in Texas. We've seen this crap coming and unfortunately implemented the Bess filter software by N2H2. They made me do it kicking and screaming. Then they put me in charge of it to rub salt into the wound.

  4. Corel stocks drops on the news on Corel to Buy Inprise/Borland · · Score: 1

Historically any time one company buys another the stock of the buyer drops and the buyee goes up. So this was to be expected.

I'm holding out though. I've got around $7K tied up on Corel stock right now. I think they are ripe to be acquired themselves. They have development tools, their own office suite, and their own distribution. My gut tells me that a Red Hat or VA equivalent is going to snatch them up soon.

  5. Re:Did ANYONE get in at the $30 on E-Trade? on VA Linux Systems Opens at $300 · · Score: 1

I tried getting 100 shares with a limit order of $85 a share. Basically it blew right past us at the opening. The first price I saw on my ticker was something like $290.

Oh well. I made $2500 off of Andover.Net and McAfee the other day, so I'm not gonna complain.

  6. Server Names on I Want Names for my Servers! · · Score: 1

At home I personally use gods from all different mythologies. Orion, Aries, Apollo, Ra, Sekhmet, Prometheus, ect ect.

At my office they started out using Disney names to the primary systems. Mickey, Minnie, Aladdin, Goofy, Pluto, Jafar. I work in the Technology Center for a large school district in Texas. The funnies thing we did was name the cafeteria system Alpo.

A personal victory for me was when I got to name our new Microsoft Proxy and Exchange Servers. I know....they suck, so don't flame me. Not my decision. I only do what I'm told. Anyway...since they are huge ugly beasts that will turn on you in a moments notice.....I named them Jeckyl and Hyde.

  9. Caldera 2.1: Easy for any Linux Newbie on Caldera Graphic Installation Screenshots · · Score: 1

I'm by far a linux newbie so my experience is quite limited. I've played with Redhat 5.2 and Caldera 2.1 in the past few months and came to the conclusion that it just doesn't get any easier to install than Caldera 2.1. If you've got a bootable CD, drop the disc in, answer a few questions, and in 30 minutes or so your done. It was so easy, I was sure something was wrong. But it worked perfectly on the first try.

  10. By Cyrix, do you mean the MediaGX???? on Ask Slashdot: Linux on Mobos w/ Integrated Sound & Video. · · Score: 1

I've got one of the older $99 133MHZ MediaGX motherboards. It's all right. Not the greatest in the world. The sound quality sucks. However my parents wanted a cheap upgrade so I put a MediaGX 200MHZ into their systems and it has worked fine.

Only using Windoze though. I only got my old faithful Intel P133 running Linux.
