  1. No, it doesn't say that on NASA Releases Columbia Crew Survival Report · · Score: 1

The summary above says that "problems with the astronauts' restraint systems were the ultimate cause of death for the seven astronauts".

    1. Nowhere does the report say that
    2. By no definition of ultimate could problems with the restraint systems been indicated as such a cause
    3. The CNN's John Zarrella repeatedly states that hypoxia was the ultimate cause of death

Therefore, the problems with the restraint systems could at best be described as "ancillary".

  2. I disagree (Re:This article is totally useless...) on The Best Keyboards For Every Occasion · · Score: 1

I disagree. Many people who use only laptops, like me, put this laptop into a docking station at home or at work and use external monitor and external keyboard. For folks like me, laptop is fine on the road, but it cannot match a proper monitor and a good keyboard. Nevertheless, there are other problems with that review that others have pointed out already.

  3. How about "Best Ergonomic Keyboard"? on The Best Keyboards For Every Occasion · · Score: 1

How about "Best Ergonomic Keyboard" for those who write a lot and don't want Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? Alas, in all the years in front of the monitor, I have found only one keyboard that was worthy of the title "Ergonomic". It was Acer Future Keyboard. It was not only split, it was sloped down forward, so your hands maintained level position while you typed. It also had light-touch keys that collapsed easily and positively, unlike the awful, springy, rubbery keys on many of the today's keyboards. That keyboard was sold in the late 199x through early 2000s. I've managed to preserve two of them. I clean them regularly and will use them for as long as I can. Unfortunately, they only have PS/2 connectors, not USB. I tried various shims in the past, store-bought and home-cooked, all to no avail. These keyboards are so important to me, that I have literally forgone buying a Macintosh until I can get a comparable keyboard because I could not make mine work with the one I tested at an Apple Store.

Is it? I must not be "in", because that is the last thing I am interested in when reading an operating system review. For whatever bizarre reason, I would rather know about:

    1. reliability
    2. compatibility with existing applications
    3. networking tools

The "Mojave is really Vista" campaign was one of the most embarassing marketing campaigns I've ever seen. Here is a company that willingly admits that the reputation of their OS is so terrible, they have to dupe people into trying it by renaming it something else. And now the same "I'm so embarrassed by my product I won't even mention its name" continues.

What happened to Microsoft's cojones? They should stand up and fight for Vista until its reputation is at least partly restored. Then they could introduce products under new names, without the overhanging cloud of shame.

As for the "review", this part is enough to make me laugh uncontrollably: "Here are some screenshots to whet your appetite:". What is this, a review of a new cellphone skin for teenagers hanging out at a mall? What is happening to ZDNet? Not that it ever was a source of great knowledge, but this?

All naturalized citizens have already gone through this process. It is only small groups of US-born citizens who have never applied for secret clearance, civil service jobs, or any others requiring background investigation. In other words, if you have managed to live sheltered somewhere under a rock, you have never been fingerprinted. Otherwise, it is too late for an outrage. Mind you, I am not making any emotional judgments one way or the other, I will leave that to others. I am just stating facts.

You misunderstood whoever57's post. He wrote, "In order to become a resident alien (green card holder), fingerprints and photos are already taken by the DHS (was INS)". He is correct. Everyone who ever applied for a green card had his fingerprints taken. It had nothing to do with physical crossing the border. It was a part of the application process. The name "FBI" appeared on the fingerprint card. So the question still stands, why can't they digitize them?

  13. Could we start with the basics? on ACM Urges Obama To Include CS In K-12 Core · · Score: 1

This is yet another silly idea that completely ignores reality.

First of all, who is going to teach CS in K-12? The same teachers who cannot teach basic reading and arithmetic now? Schools are not industry. Teachers have little desire or motivation to learn and improve on their own time. The President would be well-served to figure out first how to improve the quality of our teachers. Perhaps mandatory logic courses as a requirement of maintaining teaching credentials? Is Barack Obama going to dare challenge NEA and the AFT?

Once we improve the quality of the teaching staff, we might dream of introducing logic to schools. That would be the first step, and one that would be useful to everyone, not just future students of computer science. CS goes so far beyond that, there is no way it will fit into the program. This is supposed to be K-12, not a special project for ACM.
