  1. Re:So what? on DoubleClick DoublesBack · · Score: 1

    Doubleclick is just like most other companies in the sense that they quest for the almighty dollar. I don't think that they will disable their user database unless it has stopped being profitable. I spent the summer working for a company that sold names and information on very specific demographic people. This selling of names has become less profitable. There were layoffs at this company for about 6 months before I needed to go back to school. With doubleclick, It has just so happened that their lack of profit and online privacy were a package deal. There was the added effect of their stock going up in value. What we saw, is doubleclick making a move that turned an area of their buissness into nothingness and gave their stock a shot in the arm.

  2. Re:captain planet on X-Men Trailer Released · · Score: 1

    That is correct, by the combination of Earth, Wind, Water, Fire and Heart; Captain Planet comes about. But X-men are a more perminant condition. When said, X-men sounds more like ex - men. Much like the chinese unix. But people(primairly Male people) just don't function correctly when made into a unix. Captain Planet, however, is probably an ex man because he doesn't "live" like the rest of us. Therefore, He is a unix that functions for all of the stuff he needs to do. This ties into computers, but has an opposite effect. Because a unix system doesn't have any unnecessairy parts(that I know of) and it works in a linear fasion, you get a nice combination of unix and linear thinking. The next thing you know, linux comes about and the most functional Unix(it can procreate) comes into play. Like the old saying goes, Some things in life are going to cost you an arm and a leg(or something else). To tie back into the previous post, and the X-men thing. I got a nasty "ringing" in my ears when I saw captain planet take the place of X-men in that post. Math summary-

    xmen = ex men;
    ex men = chinese unix;
    line + unix = linux;
    linux = functionality;

    I aggree, I have a Macintosh IIci that just barely runs linux, and I haven't upgraded to a new computer. However, my dad works for a large company that does very math oriented stuff ie Orbit calculations. For him, he brings home a laptop that runs at about 600 mHz and he uses all of the cpu for intensive floating point calculations. For most anything you could possibly do at home other than web hosting, the most you could possibly need is around 200 mHz. Assuming your running an OS that doesn't waste cpu.

    I read this whole series of posts and I have something to say on the matter. As we write responses to eachothers comments, we become argumentative about things that we can't change. Energy is needlessly expended on a conflict in ideologys. I haven't seen an ideology change in my lifetime. Once they are created, they are usually set in concrete and there is no hope for change. Once a mind is closed, it is the breeding ground for arguments. This is a waste of time and energy for us all. I hope that we as a world society can find a way to resolve our differences in ideology with tolleration and compassion. Without a basic tolerance for others, we can't get along. These things pit Man against Man. From this Man can't survive while fighting himself. Guns aren't necessairy in a perfect world. I am a highschool student in Colorado, the sight of the Columbine High School Massacre, and I have friends who go to columbine. I have witnessed the effects of guns and I don't like them. Although the application of guns is done entirely by people, there is no chance for people to get shot if there are no guns. The reason the US has the freedom to bare arms is because several hundred years ago there was a need for them. I believe that I would be better off if guns weren't around me. There are other, more efficent ways to keep tabs on the government. To the Norweigen, I commend you for your love of peace. To the American, I commend you for your devotion to your ideals, even though I disagree with them. I also feel that you two need to commend eachother for believing what you do and understanding that there is no standard that an idea can live up to in two different cultures. I hope that you find a way to resolve your differences without adding insults to your posts.

    Compainies using linux might need to *duck* to prevent quackers infesting and nesting in their systems. With this possible sheels might become more and more prevelent in large systems. This would just serve to put more and more stuff into the quackers unix box. I think it would be very ironic if they used a feathery Perl script. Although I know little on the topic. I know enough to make really bad jokes. Cheese forever!!!!
