AT&T's residential broadband division (MediaOne) has cut off port 80 across their network to try and halt the spread of the worm
I don't really see how this will help either. If you're running an unpatched IIS connected to the net, you'd been scanned and rooted a couple of thousand times by now. If you look at the graphs on incidents.org, you'll see the worm isn't really spreading any more. It's just flooding.
The Kylix Open Edition ships with CLX(TM) libraries under the GPL license. As such, any applications that are built with a CLX library must make their sources freely available and distribute them under the terms of the GPL license as well.
Hmm this is a very interesting approach. Being optimistic, I think this can only result in:
More Delphi developers (free as in beer is always an attraction)
More Linux developers (Delphi is already a popular and easy to use language, but is not free for Windows)
A set of libraries maintained by said developers
More GPL'ed code.
A win for both Borland, OSS and for Linux. You might argue that this exludes other "free" licenses, but IMHO the GPL is the only way this could have been done. Eat that M$;)
This story says (in norwegian) that a new type of trains, that was put into service in Norway the year 2000, couldn't manage the date 31.12.00. The trains simply stopped in their tracks. The train company had to turn the date back a month on all the trains to get them to work.
DOS==secure because it doesn't have any networking capabilities. Ie. a DOS-box without any additional networking software won't even be connected to the internet.
But that doesn't make your box any more secure on the net, if your network software is full of bugs.
Cracking the game wasn't really that big a deal tho. The amount of monny you had was stored in a fixed location in the savegame IIRC. I remember I found it with a simple search in a hex-editor and wrote a Pascal prog in 2 minutes. Ahh the god old days...
(Old joke: what's the difference between a novice geek and a real geek? A novice geek think's there's 1000 bytes in a kilobyte, while a real geek think's theres 1024 meters in a kilometer. Haha, LAUGH god damnit)
I mean, seriously, link checking should be the responsability of the page admin. And as you say, it isn't that hard either. If you're so lazy you can't maintain your own site, then you deserve broken links.

Not to mention that pinball uses real world physics, not an approximation found in digital arcade games. No trickery or savvy programming here, folks. Just hard Newtonian rules and a dash of chaos theory to keep it fresh every time.
Same goes for basketball too, plus it's free and good for yer health.
its illegal to redistribute, not acquire, copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder
That's the problem with Napster et al. When you download an MP3, you also by default make it available to the rest of the world. You might argue that it was available before you downloaded it, but when YOU have it, YOU are responible for the redistribution.

Then of course several of the stories on the HOF were spammed badly

Ouch.. guess who's email account just got spammed hard.
Yeah but did you check the 'Music' link (the first one)? The site links to AMAZON for Christ's sake.
I agree on everything else in your post though.

You should try Win2.0

technology will always only be as smart as those who made it, never smarter
Then I cannot see how natural intelligence could ever evolve.
Nobody (whom I believe in, anyway) made the human brain. Still, we are intelligent (some might disagree:)).
If intelligence can come from nothing, why can't intelligence come from intelligence?
Just wookies...
