But then again, their device is so small that they had to take preorders to pay for it. Lying about that stuff would seal their doom, while with a huge company more sales(even based on false specs) appease the investors.

I've been on computers since I was 2 years old, and have no such predisposition. I've read books, and I've read blogs and online articles. I remember equal amounts of info from both, but much prefer the speed of reading things electronically. Being able to search for specific words/paragraphs when reviewing stuff is great. :)

According to Wikipedia [wikipedia.org] you are looking at a 400 million + install base for JUST XP, and then when you figure in that they are currently supporting Win2K Pro, WinXP 32/64, WinServer 2K3 32/64, and WinVista the idea that they could put out patches that wouldn't break something is just plain crazy. The fact that the "oops" patches only happen once or twice a year is frankly a miracle when you consider how many different possible combinations of software/hardware there can be on a Windows machine.

Usually a random person from MSFN submits fixes for whatever Microsoft breaks. I remember when they did a half-assed update pack for Win2k when ending support - but it broke more than it fixed. Someone on MSFN figured out how to fix it breaking hibernation and power management. Someone else repacked everything in service pack format.

Just think, rather than breaking 2 million Win2k computers, they could've broken only ~20,000 before detecting the problems, if they followed this train of thought.

"The Constitution is clear in assigning to Congress the power to write the laws and to the president a duty ''to take care that the laws be faithfully executed." Bush, however, has repeatedly declared that he does not need to ''execute" a law he believes is unconstitutional.

Former administration officials contend that just because Bush reserves the right to disobey a law does not mean he is not enforcing it: In many cases, he is simply asserting his belief that a certain requirement encroaches on presidential power.

But with the disclosure of Bush's domestic spying program, in which he ignored a law requiring warrants to tap the phones of Americans, many legal specialists say Bush is hardly reluctant to bypass laws he believes he has the constitutional authority to override.

Far more than any predecessor, Bush has been aggressive about declaring his right to ignore vast swaths of laws -- many of which he says infringe on power he believes the Constitution assigns to him alone as the head of the executive branch or the commander in chief of the military."

Not exactly. Putting Vista or Windows 7 on a quality SSD has big performance gains - but XP is light enough that a fast HDD will beat a fast SSD. An article I read a while back put the 640GB WD Caviars as the fastest boot drive for XP.

That said, SSDs have very real effects on games that can't cache all their textures. See: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3403&p=14

The minimum FPS almost doubles, from an unplayable < 15fps, to a playable > 25fps.

Keep in mind that SSDs are not without their performance quips. Many slow down over time, so while they're impressive when you first get them, soon they'll be just average. TRIM is supposed to solve this, by pre-erasing, but for extended read/write workloads it probably won't help much.

I wanted an SSD real bad, but the quality ones still all cost $250+; I settled on a 640GB Caviar, and am relatively happy. My computer is underpowered by today's standards(2.6ghz Athlon X2), and yet invariably I'm the first person to load any TF2 map. :D Even on 32 player servers, I'm almost always first. I even beat a friend with a 3.6ghz Q6600, which makes me even more inclined to believe my HDD is having a big impact.

Well, it's either that or the servers just like me and let me connect first. But I don't believe this, because we alternate between North American servers and Australian ones. (He's Aussie, I'm Canadian)

The unfortunate thing with Teksavvy is they go through the lines of bigger backbones. Similar to BT in the UK, they have to deal with Bell (in Canada), which throttles and blocks ports. It's been a nightmare for them fighting it and getting around it.

The only thing that should cause you to be capped is passing your bandwidth limit - and yours is "unlimited", so that should never happen, especially since you were downloading legal content. I believe my ISP rolls the month over early if you use all your bandwidth up - or you can pre-purchase another 200GB for $10; both of which is better than throttling, IMO.

Much more important than raw speed - the amount of bandwidth. I get 200GB/mo, which is very difficult to use up entirely. Somehow I doubt the UK/BT will give its customers that much.
