    Its not just the fee. Its the licenses conditions you have to agree to pay the fee.

    No they can't. There is no price that MPEG-LA will permit redistribution. Period (if they did then that would be the only license fee they would collect as anyone who wanted the codec could just download FF etc). Thus any patent license they can get is a violation of the GPL and Mozilla license. This is well known. You can't be legally compliant of both patents and the GPL on this one.

    Mozilla and FF cannot have a closed source version (aka a binary version thats different) without a total rewrite, as this would violate the copyright of many contributors.

    And what is the strategically useful position of encumber h.264 folk? To claim patent infringement regardless of a real legal case, or any intent to have a legal case.

    Its only free in the sense that you don't pay to stream it to someone under specific conditions. You still have to pay for encoders and decoders.

    Mozilla cannot legally include h.264. Its the law. How can that be their fault?

    JPEG has always had a royalty free version. Always. Pretty much the *only* version of the spec that is used.

    FUD plain and simple. More users of H.264 have had patent claims leveled against them at the court level than theora and WebM combined.

    The list of people that claim they are going to sue Linux this, or webM that is large. Not one after years worth of waiting have done so. Its 100% pure BS.

    Even if they spend the money it still would not be legal. Since GPL requires that others have redistribution rights, and patent licenses violate that. Its not just the fee, its what you have to sign to pay the fee.

    And yet all we hear on various threads here, is that $NAME is not a real climatologist/geologist/doctor etc.

    Science is many things. Dogma and exclusive are words that far too often describe some fields and scientists.

    Try Vienna. Very very low crime rate. And in particular a very low violent crime rate. Cops have pistols, but the general populous is not armed.

    Its quite legal to have weapons on a merchant ship or pleasure vessels. They must be declared when entering most ports of the world and surrendered to the port for the duration of the stay. You get them back when you leave.

    Perhaps only provide a hard copy as well. I know folks below have said this would get you a fine. But this method of data swamping in useless formats is often used to delay or thwart these types of requests.

    Its identified, as someone with family members that are diagnosed with mental illness.

    The problem is that everyone wants it to be someone else problem. Its expensive too, mainly in time of the people that need to care for them, or at least keep an eye on them. Its not like the family can all give up their day jobs. Finally its not a easy job to do right. The vast majority don't go violent, its not easy to tell the difference and really should be the job of a professional. It is however often left up to the family to try and convince the professionals that they need more direct care.

    A good example it trying to take a swipe at a family member with a machete. The pros will *not* give this person more help.

    Does that give them the right to *break the law*? Hell i bet you expect a waiter to give you good service... despite the fact that earlier in the day he/she may have had a rude customer. Why? Because its *their job*.

    If you can't handle the public without abusing your authority because someone didn't say please, or "how high" every time you say jump, you don't deserve the badge.

    "To serve, and protect", should mean something.

    Only problem that "footage" from the cameras is "not available" or "lost" when you want to prove it was the cop that was out of line.

    The police are fixing the youtube loop hole, by making it a crime to film them.

    Since cats and dogs are reported to have intelligence equivalent to at least a one-year-old human child (and I observe behavior myself every day that seems to confirm it)

    Try observing a 1 year old child, and you would see that a cat/dog are not even in the same ball park.

    For a more concrete exercise, try playing peekaboo with a cat/dog.
