No. Too cold. I'd rather live along the warm Atlantic Gulf Stream. Somewhere like Nova Scotia, New/Nouveau Brunswick, or Prince Edward Island. Lots of cute French-speaking women also. State numbers 51, 52, and 53.
>>>People like you said, "Teenage girls are not the target of the law and you know it. Don't blow this up into something more than it is."
Yep they were wrong, and it's funny how they are now hiding rather than admit they were wrong. The Member State Pennsylvania has had two cases of arrested teenagers because they shared photos. In the first case the arrested teens were allowed to go home, but in the second case the fuckers.... ooops I mean "government officials" threw the 15 and 16 year old girl/boyfriend into prison for a night. Ridiculous.
As the Cosby would say - WAKE UP PEOPLE - The human body without clothes is not sinful, or something to be ashamed of. You don't throw people in jail just because they took a picture of themselves in the mirror! Good God. It makes me want to move somewhere sane. Like Russia (nudity is legal there).
You have the right idea. Kids are not dumb; they're just lacking experience and it's our job to give them that experience.
I have no kids but hang-out with my nieces/nephews a lot, and I treat them as if they were adults (up to a point). For example my niece asked me to get some cake and I responded, "Couldn't you get it yourself?" She frowned, said "no", and then changed her mind and cut the cake herself. She was happy with her accomplishment and I said, "See? I knew you could do it." That made her smile.
Sheltering kids until they're 18, not letting them speak to store employees or use the internet, earns an "F" in my book. All you've done is create an adult with the mental capacity of a 5-year-old. This new Canadian law that forbids kid from interacting with adults (online) is just plain stupid.
>>>Time-Warner gets to vote for ALL the Senators, all the congressmen, and all their opponents.
Then maybe the time has come for the People to rise-up an cut off the Tyrant(s)' Head. No more peaceful protests with waving sings; they don't do any good. Time to scare the ____ out of the CEOs, and take back what is ours
It should be. If I was on a jury and somebody pleaded "I didn't know I broke the law," I'd refuse to convict unless it was something obvious (like murder or stealing). But somebody who accidentally downloaded porn (instead of Stargate), and they didn't realize they had broken a law, would not be declared guilty by me. There are already waaaay too many innocent people in jail for stupid stuff (like owning a naturally-growing plant)
Of course that's also why I'll never be on a jury. Smart people get removed immediately and replaced with dummies.
Also a lot of those pie charts show spending for Congressional districts that don't even exist!
Oh well. I didn't really expect things would change with Obama. At first he went on a spending spree of "hurry up; don't read the bill; there's no time" but now things have calmed down, and it feels like the Bush or Clinton years again.
Although we in the US and EU believe in openness, a lot of countries like China or Saudi Arabia do not. The entire concept is something they don't understand, so it would be pointless to require them to do it..... aout as pointless as trying to make a cat bark/ That's probably what the Ambassador means by "walking away from the table". Making the treaty open would be a deal-breaker and negotiations with China, Saudi Arabia, et cetera would simply stop.
+1 "somebody who gets it" Insightful. I think all licenses of incorporation should be nullified. They were a nice idea, but they didn't work, because they gave corporations the power to run the People's government..... in essence killing the Republic.
As you said companies can be run without being incorporated, as directly-owned and full-liability proprietorships
>>>this is NO different from medieval times, where the nobility reapt 1 out of 10 of your farm produce.
Well at least we're not serfs anymore. We have the option to "disengage" from this wealth-oriented society and tell the Microsofts and Comcasts and AIGs of the world to fuck-off (i.e. stop buying their shitty products). Any serf that did that during the middle ages would have been hung.
The corporations like Comcast and GM and ADM would not disappear if licenses to incorporate were nullified.
They'd simply transition to being single-owner companies. That would complicate the book-keeping and make the new "Owner" directly liable for what his company does, but is that really such a bad thing? Personally I think the Head of Ford should have been jailed for the indirect murder of numerous Pinto drivers, as well as the managers who made the "it's cheaper to payoff dead victims that fix the exploding fuel tank" decision. T
As happened with the CW television network. The WB was terminated. And UPN was terminated, but nobody lost their jobs. They just moved to their shiny-new building with the giant "CW" logo.
I saw something similar when I was working for the government FAA. Existing law requires giving a contract to a small-sized, minority company, for a period of two years. So when the two years was up, the original "A" corporation was dissolved, a new "Z" corporation was created with a few employees (hence a small company), and when they won the new contract they just rehired all the same people from corporation A to work for corporation Z.
That's internal corruption. What was intended to be a good law is twisted into a perversion that taints the government's hiring practices
>>>Parties and candidates get their advertising expenses reimbused by the state if they manage to reach 2% of the votes.
That wouldn't work in the U.S. It would effectively kill-off the third parties, and leave the U.S. as a Democrat-Republican monopoly. (They should just rename themselves the Big Government party - both act pretty much the same, albeit with different methods of increasing their power & making citizens less free.)
>>>The obvious legislative solution to this problem is to ban kids from using the internet until they are at least 18 years of age.
You can't teach children or young adults (teens) to ACT like adults if you forbid them from doing adult activities - like talking to the strange behind the Walmart register, or chatting with people online as I did when I was ~14.
We live in a frakked-up society. We complain that children are growing-up unprepared for the world (entitlement disorder), and then we lock them up behind doors. We are causing the very problems we bitch about
>>>"Playing records with a lasers means producing 100% analog sound with no digitization."....huh?
Lasers can be used to playback analog sound or video. For example in LaserDiscs the laser is reading an analog NTSC video of about 5 megahertz bandwidth (same as Super VHS, but not as good as the 7MHz-wide DVD). The sound is also analog in nature (except for some late post-95 discs which added a digital track).
In the laser record player the laser reads the bumps in the groove, and reproduces those bumps as an analog wave, just the same as a needle does. The laser can also read old worn records by "digging down" and reading the area below the needle damage, and make the record sound as good as new.
>>>Not until we have Vinyl ROMs..... The system takes 45 minutes to boot...
Not even close. My computer used to store programs like that (by sound) on cassettes. It would take about 5 minutes to load a 40 kilobyte program. Assuming that same speed holds true for data stored as audio on a record, it would take 12,500 minutes, or just over 8 days to boot a modern Linux OS.
Lawns??? That new-fangled idea was imported from the Carnegies and Rockefellers and other hoity-toity richie richs. It has no business in the 'hood of the common man! I'm proud to say that my grass grows tall-and-robust, just as God intended, and just like my pappy and grandpappy grew it. Live humbly, not proud. Don't be puttin-on airs with fake lawns!
Maybe it's time to get rid of that old Sears record player, before this vinyl fad disappears. Of course I do still have some vinyl laying-around..... hmmmm.
>>>Time to get that Betamax player out of the attic!
Why? Finding Betamax tapes is very difficult, and the library is limited. If you want to go retro, you should go VHS with its ~100,000 title library. And record that high definition television to a blank Super VHS tape... like I do. No fancy DVR for me by gum!:-)
Of course if you *really* retro, you could buy one of those old 1960s Umatic machines. My workplace has one - maybe they'll sell it.

Yes. If you're going to steal, then steal from a known thief, because he's unlikely to go to the cops and report you.
Same applies to shopping on ebay
