It would be nice if Lucas released a Special Edition of Episode I that had Jar-Jar Binks excised. Or if that's not possible, redub his voice so he sounds normal instead of racist.
This is the part that bother me: "Every day an important green tech innovation is hindered from coming to market is another day we harm our planet and another day lost in creating green businesses and green jobs."
I just heard that quote on a Christian radio station not too long ago, but with slight differences: Every day a [missionary work] is hindered from coming to market is another day we harm our [souls] and another day lost in [saving the sinners]. More-and-more Greens are looking like they belong in a church, but to hear that style zealotry coming from our own government employees is disconcerting.
When 9/11 happened I said to myself, "This is tragic, but I hope the president and Congress doesn't do something foolish, like waste billions of dollars fighting a war, just because ~2000 people died. After all more people die every year from just car accidents, and we don't declare war on Ford or Toyota."
Well my hope was forlorn. If I didn't know any better, I'd think we were re-enacting the downfall of the Ancient Athenian Democracy - death through war and foolish, out-of-control spending.
Cloning is what caused the videogame crash of 1983. The popular console of the time, Atari VCS/2600, was an open platform with ~25 million users so everyone was trying to create quick clones of previously-created Atari and Activision games. For example: Coconuts is an obvious clone of Kaboom with near-identical play mechanic, but nowhere near as good.
What then happened was a major overload of games, most of which were not worth buying, and consumers got feed up and simply stopped buying. Sales fell-off during 1983, game prices plummeted from $30 to $5, and after Christmas many companies went bankrupt.
I think we're going to see the same thing happen now. There are too many games flying around on Facebook, iPhone, and other net-connected services, people will burn-out, and sales will plummet.
Still doesn't tell me what a DLC is. People, especially reporters, shouldn't use acronyms without explaining what they mean. I mean, like OMG, WTF? LOL. (shrug). IAAL. TTFN. L8r
And that will be the end of my modern gaming career. Rather than be nickle-and-dimed to death, I'll just dust-off the old PS2, Nintendo64, Genesis, Amiga, and Atari systems and play them instead. I want to OWN the things I buy, not rent them.
Please don't use acronyms unless you've first identified what they mean. I have no idea what a DLC is, and I did not see a link to an article so I couldn't look it up.
Otherwise I'll TOT a TLAM and some SM2s on your TDC from my VLS using my FCU.;-)
>>>the better performance of vinyl compared to cassette
I don't know why people say this. A standard chrome cassette has 20-22,000 hertz frequency range and 65 decibel dynamic range. No vinyl record can match that level of quality.
You're right about the modulation being better today. If we assume we will use the same analog modulation as a 33k modem, which is confined to 4000 hertz, then a 22000 hertz wide tape could be about 5 times faster, or 135 kbit/second. So a modern OS would still need 1-2 hours to load.
FAIL. The quote is "Who watches the Watchmen?" Please fold down the right corner of your geek card
Wrong. The actual phrase is "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" which if translated literally means: "Who custodies the custodians?" - Unfortunately custodie is only valid in Old and Middle English, so in modern English we are forced to replace it with alternate words like watches or guards or polices. And then for the sake of alliteration, we replace custodians as well:
Who [watches] the [watchers]? Who [guards] the [guardians]? Who [polices] the [police]?
The Apple corporation also used the 16-bit version of the 6502 (65816) in their IIgs computer.
The IIgs was a nice backwards-compatible upgrade for Apple users, but unfortunately was a dead-end. It clearly wasn't as powerful as the 68000-based machines (ST, Amiga, Mac, Genesis).
>>>After Apple abandoned me and tens of thousands of other Apple ][ and ][+ owners almost thirty years ago
What the hell was Apple supposed to do? Keep building obsolete 8-bit machines? Their transition from the 8-bit Apple line to the 32-bit Macintosh line was no different than what other manufacturers were doing at that time. Atari transitioned from 8 bit 400/800s to the 32-bit ST, and Commodore transitioned from the 64/128 to the Amiga. Nintendo/Sega transitioned from NES/SMS to SNES/Genesis.
Your complaint is unreasonable IMHO, given the market of the late 80s. Every company was making this "jump" from the old 8-bit tech to the newer technologies.
Well I'm not going to be doing any video encoding. I suppose having a "spare" core is handy but otherwise 3 or more is not needed for the average web surfer.

War is foolish.

Not really. The first FPS was on a console called the Atari VCS/2600. It was called Starship. 1977

Oh the Desktop Linux Consortium. Well then, that makes what EA is doing a-okay. I. Heart. Linux.
Hmmm.

That was supposed to a joke..... mod it funny.

Well then it can't be any good. Americans don't create anything worthwhile.

And oh yeah - Amanda Knox is guilty as sin. Damn prissy American girl

All are valid translations of the original Latin.

I'm using a Mac you insensitive clod!
I hope that's sarcasm. 400KB only ~4 seconds saved on my 750k DSL
Well that 422 kilobytes saved me 3 minutes of download time on my 28k modem
Okay yes it's ridiculous to zip it.

I glanced at the article but didn't spot it. 2? 3? 4? Also is there really any benefit to having more than 2 cores inside a machine?
Oh okay. Just under 4 days then. You would have to change the record every 10 minutes though... not very convenient.
